What is GoSavenow?
GoSavenow is a rogue browser plug-in claiming to save time and money by enabling comparison shopping, coupons, and displaying special deals/discounts available on shopping stores. While this functionality may seem legitimate and useful, be aware that GoSavenow is categorized as adware or a potentially unwanted program (PUP).
The developers of this rogue browser extension employ a deceptive software marketing method called 'bundling' (stealth installation of additional programs together with the chosen software) to install GoSavenow on browsers without users' consent.
Following successful infiltration on Internet Explorer, Mozilla Firefox, and Google Chrome, GoSavenow generates various intrusive online advertisements such as coupon, in-text, search, and interstitial ads. There is a high probability that clicking these advertisements will cause high-risk adware or malware infections.
In addition, GoSavenow continually monitors users' Internet browsing activity by collecting various software and hardware information that is likely to be personally identifiable.
For example: search queries entered into search engines (Bing, Google, Yahoo, etc.), website URLs visited, pages viewed, IP addresses (used to determine users' geographic locations), unique identifier numbers, and other similar details. This behavior may result in serious privacy issues or identity theft.
GoSave is similar to other rogue browser add-ons that use bundling as an installation method. PriceChop, DiscountPlace, PriceFountain, Cartwheel Shopping, and TopBuyer are just a few examples among many others.
Neither GoSavenow, nor any of these other PUPs are useful to the user - their purpose is to generate revenue by the display of intrusive online ads, enforcing unwanted browser redirects, and sharing recorded information with third parties. For these reasons, you are strongly advised to uninstall GoSavenow from your Internet browsers.
Research shows that most adware is distributed via small download programs (called 'download clients', 'download managers', 'installers', etc.) used by freeware download websites such as download.com, softonic.com, and soft32.com.
The programs are employed to monetize these websites' free services and traffic by offering installation of advertised '100% virus-free' browser plug-ins together with the chosen free software. Thus, reckless download and installation of freeware often results in adware or malware infections.
This situation can be prevented by closely observing each step of the free software download procedure and clicking 'Decline' if installation of any additional programs is offered.
Furthermore, all software downloaded from the Internet should be installed using the 'Advanced' or 'Custom' installation options, rather than 'Quick' or 'Typical' - this will reveal any bundled applications listed for installation and allow you to decline them.
If you have already installed GoSavenow, and you experience intrusive online ads while surfing the Internet, follow the removal instructions provided to eliminate this adware from your Internet browsers.
