What is Info Seeker?
Info Seeker is a potentially unwanted application, which claims to improve the quality of users' Internet browsing experience by enabling searches on highlighted phrases within certain websites such as "Wikipedia", "Google Maps", and "WolframAlpha". Although Info Seeker may seem a legitimate application, be aware that it is categorized as adware.
The developers of this browser extension (Big Water Applications LLC) optimize it for Internet Explorer, Mozilla Firefox, and Google Chrome.
This browser plug-in employs a deceptive software marketing method called 'bundling' to stealthily install software on Internet browsers without users' consent. After successful installation, Info Seeker generates various intrusive advertisements including interstitial, in-text, and banner ads.
Furthermore, this potentially unwanted browser extension continually tracks users' Internet browsing activity by recording diverse software information including browser types, operating systems, URLs visited, pages viewed, and search queries entered. It also tracks hardware information such as IP addresses, unique identifier numbers, and other similar information.
This behavior may lead to serious privacy issues or malware infections. There are many similar browser add-ons including, for example, Mood Tube, Spy Lookout, and Tube Dimmer.
These plug-ins claim to enhance users' Internet browsing experience by enabling useful functionality, however, none of them add any real value - their main purpose is to generate income by the display of intrusive online advertisements. For these reasons, you are advised to remove Info Seeker from your Internet browser/s.
Most adware similar to Info Seeker is distributed via 'download managers' within freeware download websites. Internet users should be aware that, today, many freeware download websites (such as download.com, softonic.com, soft32.com, and many others) use these small programs to monetize their free services, since they offer installation of promoted browser extensions together with the chosen free software.
Thus, careless download and installation of freeware risks PC infection with adware. To prevent installation of Info Seeker, or other similar adware, pay close attention during the download of freeware - click the 'Decline' button when installation of additional applications is offered.
If you are installing downloaded software, choose the 'Advanced' or 'Custom' installation options, rather than 'Quick' or 'Typical' - this will reveal applications bundled within the set-up and you will be able to opt-out of installation. Users who have already installed Info Seeker should follow this removal guide to eliminate it from their Internet browser/s.
