How to uninstall MemoryField adware from the operating system?
Written by Tomas Meskauskas on (updated)
What is MemoryField?
MemoryField is a rogue app classified as adware. Additionally, it has browser hijacker qualities. Due to the questionable techniques used to distribute adware and browser hijackers, they are also categorized as PUAs (Potentially Unwanted Applications).
MemoryField adware in detail
Adware enables the placement of pop-ups, banners, coupons, surveys, and other intrusive advertisements on any visited website and/or different interfaces. The delivered ads diminish the browsing quality and even pose a threat to device/user safety.
When clicked on, intrusive adverts redirect to various untrustworthy/malicious sites, and some can download/install software (e.g., PUAs) without user permission.
Browser hijackers reassign browsers' homepage, default search engine, and new tab/window URLs to fake web searcher addresses. Hence, every new browser tab/window opened and search queries typed into the URL bar - redirect to the promoted address.
Fraudulent search engines are typically unable to generate search results, so they redirect to Yahoo, Bing, Google, and other genuine ones. Browser hijackers also use persistence-ensuring techniques - to prevent users from restoring their browsers.
What is more, most PUAs have data tracking abilities. Targeted information includes: browsing and search engine histories, IP addresses, personally identifiable details, and so forth. The gathered data is then shared with and/or sold to third-parties.
In summary, the presence of unwanted apps on devices can lead to system infections, serious privacy issues, financial losses, and even identity theft.

Adware in general
ConnectionCache, ModuleService, and MainCharacterSearch are a few examples of apps within the adware classification. This software appears legitimate and offers "useful" features, which are rarely operational. In fact, this applies to nearly all PUAs. Unwanted apps are designed to deliver intrusive ad campaigns, hijack browsers, cause redirects, and collect private data.
How did MemoryField install on my computer?
PUAs are distributed using the "bundling" method - packing regular programs with various additions. Rushed download/installation processes increase the risk of allowing bundled content into the device. Intrusive advertisements proliferate PUAs as well. Upon being clicked, the ads can execute scripts to make stealthy downloads/installations. PUAs may also have "official" download pages.
How to avoid installation of potentially unwanted applications?
It is recommended to research software and download only from official/trustworthy channels. Dubious sources, e.g., unofficial and freeware websites, Peer-to-Peer sharing networks, and other third-party downloaders - often offer bundled content.
When downloading/installing, it is advised to read terms, study possible options, use the "Custom/Advanced" settings to opt-out from all additions. Intrusive adverts appear legitimate; however, they redirect to highly questionable sites (e.g., gambling, pornography, adult-dating, etc.).
In case of encounters with ads and/or redirects of this kind, the device must be checked and all suspicious applications and browser extensions/plug-ins detected - immediately removed from it. If your computer is already infected with MemoryField, we recommend running a scan with Combo Cleaner Antivirus for macOS to automatically eliminate this adware.
