How to uninstall the ProManagerRecord adware from your device?
Written by Tomas Meskauskas on (updated)
What is ProManagerRecord?
ProManagerRecord is a rogue application classified as adware. Additionally, it has browser hijacker traits. Hence, following successful installation, this piece of software delivers intrusive advertisement campaigns and promotes fake search engines - by making alterations to browser settings.
Most adware and browser hijackers collect browsing-related information, and ProManagerRecord likely has such data tracking abilities as well.
Due to the questionable methods used to proliferate ProManagerRecord, it is categorized as a PUA (Potentially Unwanted Application). This app has been noted being spread via fake Adobe Flash Player updates.
Adware enables the placement of third-party graphical content on any visited website and/or other interfaces. This software delivers various intrusive advertisements (e.g., pop-ups, banners, surveys, coupons, etc.). They seriously diminish the browsing activity by overlaying webpage content and slowing down the browsing speed.
Furthermore, intrusive adverts endanger device and user safety. Once clicked on, these ads redirect to unreliable/malicious sites, and some can stealthily download/install software (e.g., PUAs).
Browser hijackers assign the addresses of fake web searchers as browsers' homepage, new tab/window, and default search engine. Therefore, every new browser tab/window opened and search query typed into the URL bar - redirect to the promoted search engine's address.
Illegitimate web searchers are rarely able to provide search results - so they redirect to (or cause redirection chains ending with) Google, Bing, Yahoo, and other genuine search engines. Browser hijackers can undo any changes users try to make to their browsers and/or restrict/deny access to the browser settings outright.
Hence, recovering a hijacked browser is impossible without removing the software affecting it. What is more, most PUAs (adware and browser hijackers included) can track data.
This software records browsing activity (URLs visited, webpages viewed, search queries typed, etc.) and gathers vulnerable information extracted from it (IP addresses, geolocations, personally identifiable details, etc.). PUA developers monetize the collected data by sharing it with and/or selling it to third-parties (potentially, cyber criminals).
In summary, the presence of unwanted apps on devices - can result in system infections, severe privacy issues, financial losses, and even identity theft. To ensure device integrity and user privacy, all suspicious applications and browser extensions/plug-ins must be eliminated immediately upon detection.

PublicToolboxLookup, SectionChannel, and ExtendedField are a couple examples of adware-type apps. They appear ordinary and harmless. Users are lured into downloading/installing this software with a wide variety of "useful" functions.
However, the advertised features are usually nonoperational. In fact, this is true of nearly all PUAs. The sole aim of unwanted applications is to generate profit at user expense. Therefore, rather than operate as promised, PUAs can deliver intrusive advertisement campaigns, hijack browsers, cause redirects, and collect private information.
How did ProManagerRecord install on my computer?
PUAs are distributed through download/installation setups of other products. "Bundling" is the name of this deceptive marketing technique - packing regular software with unwanted or malicious additions.
Rushed download/installation processes (e.g., skipped steps, used pre-set options, etc.) increase the risk of unintentionally allowing bundled content into the system.
When clicked on, intrusive advertisements can execute scripts to download/install PUAs without user permission. This software may also have "official" promotional/download webpages.
How to avoid installation of potentially unwanted applications?
It is important to research software before download/installation and/or purchase. Furthermore, it is recommended to download only from official and verified sources.
Untrustworthy download channels, e.g., unofficial and free file-hosting websites, Peer-to-Peer sharing networks, and other third-party downloaders - commonly offer dangerous and bundled content. Download and installation processes must be approached with care.
Therefore, it is advised to read terms, explore all possible options, use the "Custom/Advanced" settings, and opt-out from additional apps, tools, features, etc. Intrusive adverts appear legitimate and innocuous; however, they redirect to questionable sites (e.g., gambling, adult-dating, pornography, and so on).
In case of encounters with ads and/or redirects of this kind, the system must be checked and all suspect applications and browser extensions/plug-ins detected - immediately removed from it. If your computer is already infected with ProManagerRecord, we recommend running a scan with Combo Cleaner Antivirus for macOS to automatically eliminate this adware.
