How to remove ExtendedWindow from your browser and computer
Written by Tomas Meskauskas on (updated)
What is ExtendedWindow?
ExtendedWindow is classified as adware and a browser hijacker - it displays advertisements and promotes z6airr.com and adjustablesample.com (addresses of fake search engines) by changing browser settings. It can also read sensitive information from websites.
Generally, users download and install adware and browser hijackers inadvertently and, therefore, apps of this type are categorized as potentially unwanted applications (PUAs).
Apps such as ExtendedWindow feed users with advertisements including pop-up ads, coupons, banners, surveys, etc. Commonly, users who click them arrive at dubious websites. In some cases, they can cause download/installation of unwanted apps by executing certain scripts.
ExtendedWindow promotes z6airr.com (on Safari browsers) and adjustablesample.com (on Chrome browsers) by changing certain browser settings. Both of these addresses redirect to search.yahoo.com. I.e., these are the addresses of fake search engines designed to display results generated by Yahoo.
Usually browser hijackers promote fake search engines by changing settings such as the address of the default search engine, homepage, and new tab. Users can only remove addresses of fake search engines from browser settings when the hijacking app (in this case, ExtendedWindow) is removed from the browser and/or computer.
ExtendedWindow can also collect sensitive information (such as passwords, credit card details, telephone numbers) from websites. Collected information might be misused to steal accounts and identities, make fraudulent transactions and purchases, and for other malicious purposes.
Users with ExtendedWindow app installed on browsers and/or computers may suffer financial loss, become victims of identity theft, experience problems relating to web browsing safety/online privacy, lose access to various personal accounts, etc. You are strongly advised not to download or install applications such as ExtendedWindow.

Commonly, adware-type apps and browser hijackers are useless to regular users and designed only to generate revenue for the developers, even if they are advertised as useful and legitimate applications. Uninstall all PUAs from browsers/computers immediately.
More examples of PUAs similar to ExtendedWindow are PracticalProcesser, ExpandedProgram and RunningOptimizer.
How did ExtendedWindow install on my computer?
Users often download and install potentially unwanted applications with other programs. I.e., when PUAs are included into download/installation set-ups as 'additional offers'. These offers can be declined in "Custom", "Advanced" and other similar settings of the set-ups.
This distribution of unwanted apps is called "bundling". It works when users download and install their software without checking and changing the settings. PUAs are also downloaded and installed through deceptive ads that execute certain scripts when clicked.
How to avoid installation of potentially unwanted applications
Unwanted downloads and installations can be avoided by declining offers to download or install unwanted apps before completing the process. Typically, you can decline these offers in "Custom", "Advanced" or other settings of the set-ups.
Third party downloaders, installers, unofficial pages, Peer-to-Peer networks such as torrent clients, eMule, and other channels of this kind are often used to distribute unwanted, malicious programs. Therefore, programs and files should be downloaded only from official websites and through direct links.
Do not click ads displayed on dubious pages, since they can cause installation of unwanted software. Generally, such ads appear on untrusted web pages. Remove any suspicious, unwanted extensions, plug-ins and add-ons already installed on the browser.
Also remove programs of this kind that are installed on the operating system. If your computer is already infected with ExtendedWindow, we recommend running a scan with Combo Cleaner Antivirus for macOS to automatically eliminate this adware.
