How to uninstall ExpandedProgram from browsers and computers
Written by Tomas Meskauskas on (updated)
What is ExpandedProgram?
ExpandedProgram functions not only as adware but also as a browser hijacker: it displays ads and promotes 0yrvtrh.com and adjustablesample.com (addresses of fake search engines) by changing certain browser settings. ExpandedProgram can also read sensitive information and can collect browsing-related data.
Commonly, users download and install apps such as ExpandedProgram (adware, browser hijackers) inadvertently. For this reason they are classified as potentially unwanted applications (PUAs).
Generally, apps such as ExpandedProgram feed users with banners, coupons, surveys, pop-ups and/or other types of advertisements. These can open dubious, potentially malicious pages. Sometimes they cause download/installation of potentially unwanted applications by executing certain scripts.
Therefore, ads that are displayed by installed adware (in this case, ExpandedProgram) cannot be trusted and should never be clicked. Furthermore, ExpandedProgram promotes 0yrvtrh.com (on Safari) and adjustablesample.com (on Chrome). Both sites redirect users to search.yahoo.com (display results generated by Yahoo).
Typically, apps of this kind hijack browsers by changing settings such as the address of the default search engine, homepage, and new tab so that users are forced to visit a certain address (fake search engine) when they open a browser, new tab, or enter search queries into the URL bar.
Typically, the bogus addresses can only be removed from browser settings when the app that changed them is no longer installed. ExpandedProgram can also read sensitive information from browsers such as credit card details, passwords, and telephone numbers.
The data/information could be misused to make fraudulent purchases and transactions, steal personal accounts and identities, sold to third parties (potentially, cyber criminals), and for other malicious purposes. If ExpandedProgram or any other app of this type is installed on the browser and/or operating system, uninstall it immediately.

Some examples of other apps similar to ExpandedProgram are OperativeFraction, RunningOptimizer and AdjustableSkill.
Typically, apps of this type are useless: they do not include any features or improve the browsing experience and are designed only to help the developers to generate revenue by displaying advertisements, collecting information, and promoting fake search engines. Therefore, ExpandedProgram and other PUAs should never be downloaded and installed.
How did ExpandedProgram install on my computer?
PUAs are often distributed by including them into the download/installation set-ups of various programs as 'additional offers'. This distribution method is known as "bundling".
Typically, offers to download or install these apps can be found and declined in "Custom", "Advanced" and other similar settings of set-ups, however, many users fail to check and change these settings - this allows included PUAs to infiltrate with other software.
Sometimes users download and install unwanted software by clicking deceptive ads that execute certain scripts. Typically, these ads appear on untrusted pages.
How to avoid installation of potentially unwanted applications
Files and programs should be downloaded from official websites and via direct links. Other sources, channels (e.g., third party downloaders, unofficial websites, free file hosting pages, Peer-to-Peer networks such as torrent clients, and eMule) could be used to distribute unwanted applications.
The same applies to third party installers. Furthermore, it is not safe to click intrusive ads, especially if they are displayed on untrusted websites. These ads often open other pages of this kind or execute scripts that download or even install unwanted apps.
Decline offers to download or install any unwanted software in the "Advanced", "Custom" or other settings. Remove any unwanted, suspicious apps (extensions, add-ons, plug-ins) installed on the browser, and software of this kind installed on the operating system.
If your computer is already infected with ExpandedProgram, we recommend running a scan with Combo Cleaner Antivirus for macOS to automatically eliminate this adware.
