How to stop redirects to and from 0yrvtrh.com
Written by Tomas Meskauskas on (updated)
What is 0yrvtrh.com?
0yrvtrh.com is a fake search engine. Typically, these bogus search tools are promoted by rogue software classified as browser hijackers. They operate by making modifications to browser settings and restricting/denying access to them. Furthermore, browser hijackers and fake search engines often monitor users' browsing activity.
The 0yrvtrh.com search engine has been observed being promoted by ConnectionIndexer, an adware-type application (which possesses browser hijacker characteristics). Due to the dubious methods used to proliferate adware and browser hijackers, they are classified as Potentially Unwanted Applications (PUAs).
Google Chrome, Safari, Mozilla Firefox and other popular browsers are common targets of browser hijackers. Following successful infiltration, they reassign the homepage, default search engine and new tab/window URLs to the addresses of fake search engines.
These seemingly minor alterations significantly affect the browsing experience. For example, with ConnectionIndexer installed, each new browser tab/window opened and search query typed into the URL bar redirects to 0yrvtrh.com.
Note, however, taht the ConnectionIndexer application promotes search.dominantmethod.com (another bogus search engine) on Google Chrome browsers. Fake search tools have no real value to regular users, since they are rarely capable of providing search results.
They simply redirect (or cause redirection chains leading) to legitimate search engines. 0yrvtrh.com and search.dominantmethod.com cannot generate search results, and so they redirect to Yahoo (search.yahoo.com).
Additionally, browser hijackers can undo any changes users attempt to make to their browsers, if they permit access to the browser settings at all. Therefore, recovering a hijacked browser is impossible without removing the software affecting it. As mentioned, most PUAs (adware and browser hijacker included) have data tracking capabilities.
They can record browsing activity (URLs visited, web pages viewed, search queries typed, etc.) and gather personal information derived from it (IP addresses, geolocations and other details). This vulnerable data is then shared with and/or sold to third parties (potentially, cyber criminals), seeking to likewise misuse it for financial gain.
To summarize, the presence of unwanted software on devices can lead to system infections, financial loss, serious privacy issues and even identity theft. To protect device integrity and user safety, you are strongly advised to eliminate all suspect apps and browser extensions/plug-ins immediately upon detection.

searchiing.com, searches.network, prudensearch.com and search.handlersection.com are some examples of other fake search engines. Judging on appearance alone, they may seem practically identical to genuine search engines. The software promoting bogus search engines similarly appears legitimate and useful.
Users are enticed into download/installation with offers of "useful" functionality, however, the features promised are seldom operational. The only purpose of these unwanted applications is to generate revenue at users' expense. Rather than delivering any real value, PUAs hijack browsers, cause redirects, run intrusive advertisement campaigns and collect sensitive information.
How did 0yrvtrh.com install on my computer?
PUAs are distributed via the download/installation set-ups of other software. For example, ConnectionIndexer adware is proliferated through fake Adobe Flash Player updaters/installers. The deceptive marketing technique of packing regular products with unwanted or malicious additions is called "bundling".
Rushing download/installation processes (e.g. ignoring terms, skipping steps, etc.) increases the risk of unintentionally allowing dubious and/or bundled content into devices.
Certain PUAs also have "official" download sites. Intrusive advertisements can infiltrate these apps into systems as well. Once clicked, they can execute scripts to download/install PUAs without users' permission.
How to avoid installation of potentially unwanted applications
You are strongly advised to research all products before download/installation and/or purchase. All downloads should be performed only from official and verified sources. Untrusted channels such as unofficial and free file-hosting websites, Peer-to-Peer sharing networks and other third party downloaders can offer deceptive and/or bundled content.
Download and installation processes must be treated with caution. Read the terms, study all available options, use the "Custom" or "Advanced" settings and opt-out from supplementary apps, tools, features, etc. Intrusive ads may seem legitimate, however, they can redirect to dubious web pages (e.g. gambling, adult-dating, pornography and others).
If you experience ads or redirects of this kind, check your devices and immediately remove all suspicious applications and browser extensions/plug-ins. If your computer is already infected with browser hijackers, we recommend running a scan with Combo Cleaner Antivirus for macOS to automatically eliminate them.
