How to stop redirects to and from checkvd.com
Written by Tomas Meskauskas on (updated)
What is checkvd[.]com?
checkvd[.]com is an untrustworthy site sharing similarities with enerativearea.pro, oawhaursaith.com, globallyreinvation.com and countless other rogue web pages. It presents visitors with dubious content and/or redirects them to other malicious websites.
Typically, checkvd[.]com and similar pages are accessed via redirects caused by intrusive ads or Potentially Unwanted Applications (PUAs). This software does not need explicit user consent to be installed onto devices. PUAs cause redirects, run intrusive advertisement campaigns, and track browsing-related data.
When accessed, checkvd[.]com first checks visitors' IP addresses to learn their geolocations. This information is key in determining the site's behavior. I.e., whether users are redirected elsewhere and/or are presented with dubious material is determined by their geolocations.
Additionally, this page uses deceptive tactics to trick visitors into allowing browser notifications ("Click Allow to watch the video"). If the notifications are enabled, checkvd[.]com starts delivering intrusive ad campaigns. Once clicked, these ads redirect to sale-oriented, untrusted/rogue, compromised, scam and malicious websites.
Some of these advertisements can be triggered (when clicked) to execute scripts designed to stealthily download/install software (e.g. PUAs). Unwanted applications can force-open similarly harmful web pages and/or run intrusive ad campaigns. Furthermore, most PUAs have data tracking capabilities.
They can monitor browsing activity (browsing and search engine histories) and collect sensitive information derived from it (IP addresses, geolocations and other details). The gathered data often contains personally identifiable information. Furthermore, PUA developers usually monetize this data by sharing it with and/or selling it to third parties intent on misusing it for profit.
In summary, the presence of unwanted apps on devices can lead to system infections, serious privacy issues, financial loss and even identity theft. To protect device integrity and user safety, remove all suspicious applications and browser extensions/plug-ins immediately upon detection.

PUAs tend may seem legitimate and harmless, and often tempt users into download/installation with offers of "useful" functionalities, however, these features are rarely operational. The only purpose of these unwanted applications is to generate revenue at users' expense.
Rather than delivering any real value, PUAs cause redirects, run intrusive ad campaigns and gather private data.
How did adware install on my computer?
Certain PUAs have "official" promotional pages from which they can be downloaded, however, these applications are more commonly downloaded/installed with other software. This deceptive marketing tactic of pre-packing normal products with unwanted or malicious additions is termed "bundling".
Rushing download/installation processes (e.g. ignoring terms, skipping steps, using pre-set options, etc.) increases the risk of unintentionally allowing bundled content onto the system. Intrusive ads proliferate PUAs as well. When clicked, they can execute scripts to download/install rogue software without users' permission.
How to avoid installation of potentially unwanted applications
You are advised to research all products before download/installation or purchase. Use only official and trustworthy download channels. Unofficial and free file-hosting sites, Peer-to-Peer sharing networks and other third party downloaders can offer deceptive and bundled content and are untrusted.
When downloading/installing, read the terms, explore all available options, use the "Custom/Advanced" settings and opt-out of supplementary apps, tools, features and other additions. It is also important to exercise caution when browsing.
Intrusive advertisements may seem legitimate, however, they can redirect to dubious web pages (e.g. gambling, pornography, adult-dating, etc.). If you encounter these ads/redirects, check the system and remove all dubious applications and browser extensions/plug-ins without delay.
If your computer is already infected with rogue applications, we recommend running a scan with Combo Cleaner Antivirus for Windows to automatically eliminate them.

How to avoid browser notification spam?
Internet users should be very skeptical when being asked to allow notifications. While this is a useful feature that allows you to receive timely news from websites you like, deceptive marketers frequently abuse it.
Only allow notifications from websites that you fully trust. For added security - use an anti-malware application with a real-time web browsing monitor to block shady websites that tries to trick you into allowing spam notifications. We recommend using Combo Cleaner Antivirus for Windows.
