How to uninstall apps that reassign browser settings to go-movix.com
Written by Tomas Meskauskas on (updated)
What is go-movix.com?
When certain browser settings are set to go-movix.com, a browser hijacker is installed. Note that go-movix.com is the address of a fake search engine. Generally, these search engines are promoted by browser hijackers, which people often download and install inadvertently. Therefore, these rogue software programs are categorized as potentially unwanted applications (PUAs).
One browser hijacker that promotes go-movix.com is called Ultimate Media New Tab, however, this address could also be promoted through other PUAs. In any case, go-movix.com is promoted by assigning it as the address of the homepage, new tab and default search engine.
When these settings are set to go-movix.com, users arrive at this address when they open a browser, new tab or enter search queries into the URL bar. Typically, this can be changed/undone only by uninstalling the browser hijacker (in this case, Ultimate Media New Tab) that originally changed the browser settings to go-movix.com.
These apps are often designed to prevent users from modifying the aforementioned settings - the solution is to uninstall them. Note also that go-movix.com is classified as a fake search engine, since it displays results generated by Yahoo (redirects users to search.yahoo.com).
Furthermore, browser hijackers record information relating to users' browsing activities (IP addresses, geolocations, addresses of visited websites, entered search queries, etc.), however, some browser hijackers can access private, sensitive data as well.
Furthermore, developers might sell collected information to third parties (potentially, cyber criminals) who misuse it to generate revenue in other ways. These actions can put users at risk of becoming victims of identity theft and can lead to problems relating to browsing safety, privacy, etc.
Therefore, browser hijackers should never be trusted or downloaded/installed. If Ultimate Media New Tab or similar apps are already installed on the browser and/or computer, remove them immediately.

Usually, browser hijackers and other PUAs are advertised as useful, legitimate applications, however, most do not function as promised.
They are designed only to help the developers to generate revenue by gathering data and forcing users to visit addresses of fake search engines. Furthermore, having a browser hijacked by these apps can cause serious problems. More examples of fake search engines include ossearch.online, cosappzsearch.online, and myappsclub[.]net.
How did go-movix.com install on my computer?
In most cases, users download and install browser hijackers (and other PUAs) by clicking deceptive ads that execute certain scripts or when developers distribute them using the "bundling" method. This is used to trick people into downloading and installing PUAs with other software.
Developers include PUAs into the download/installation set-ups of other programs as 'additional offers' and hide related details in "Custom", "Advanced" and other similar settings. Users often allow PUAs to be downloaded and installed with other software when they leave these settings unchanged.
How to avoid installation of potentially unwanted applications
You are advised to download software only from official, trustworthy websites and through direct links. Other channels, sources such as third party downloaders, Peer-to-Peer networks (e.g., torrent clients, eMule) unofficial websites, etc. are used to distribute potentially unwanted, malicious software.
Check all "Custom", "Advanced" and other options/settings and decline offers to download or install unwanted applications. Do not click ads that appear on dubious web pages - when clicked, they can open deceptive, untrusted or even malicious websites. They can also cause unwanted downloads, installations.
Remove any suspicious, unwanted extensions, add-ons, and plug-ins installed on the browser, and programs of this kind installed on the operating system. If your computer is already infected with browser hijackers, we recommend running a scan with Combo Cleaner Antivirus for Windows to automatically eliminate it.
