Bible Verses Browser Hijacker
Written by Tomas Meskauskas on (updated)
What is search.hbible-verses.app?
Bible Verses is promoted as a useful app that provides verses from the Bible, however, it is actually a potentially unwanted application (PUA) that operates as a browser hijacker. It promotes search.hbible-verses.app, a dubious (fake) search engine by making changes to browser settings.
It also collects information relating to users' browsing activity. Do not trust or use this search engine or any apps of this type.
These apps are usually capable of hijacking browsers such as Google Chrome, Mozilla Firefox, and Internet Explorer. Immediately after Bible Verses installation, settings such as homepage, default search engine and new tab URL are changed to search.hbible-verses.app.
None of this can be undone or changed, at least not until the Bible Verses app is uninstalled - it prevents changing/undoing settings and forces users to visit search.hbible-verses.app when they open their browsers, new tabs, or search by entering queries into the URL bar.
This fake search engine provides results produced by Yahoo - it simply redirects users to search.yahoo.com. In summary, search.hbible-verses.app does not generate any unique results.
Another issue with search.hbible-verses.app and the Bible Verses app is that they gather browsing-related data such as IP addresses, geolocations, URLs of visited websites, entered search queries, and so on. Furthermore, people who develop apps/search engines of this type share all recorded information with other parties, some of whom might be cyber criminals.
The data is often misused to generate revenue. When Bible Verses is installed it might, therefore, cause problems with browsing safety, online privacy, or even identity theft.

At first most browser hijackers seem such as legitimate browser apps, that is since their developers promote them as useful, useful tools, however, few these apps operate as they supposed to. Most PUAs generate revenue for their developers without providing users with any of the features promised and other value.
If there are any apps of this type installed on a browser (or operating system), they should be removed immediately. Here are examples of apps that are categorized as browser hijackers too: Easy Forms Now, MyMapDirections and Songs Search.
How did Bible Verses install on my computer?
In most cases, PUAs are installed through clicked intrusive ads or when software developers use the "bundling" method. People do not generally install these apps intentionally. Developers often bundle unwanted apps into various software setups, however, they do not disclose information about this properly.
They hide the details in various setup parts such as "Custom", "Advanced", and other similar settings. This information often goes unnoticed when people download and install software without paying attention to all details.
How to avoid installation of potentially unwanted applications?
Download software using reputable and official sources. Do not use torrents, third party software downloaders, and other similar sources to download software. These third party downloaders are often monetized by promoting various potentially unwanted applications. Furthermore, ensure that you do not leave any unwanted offers or additional software selected/included.
Check all available "Advanced", "Custom" and other similar options/settings, and only then finish the installation. Avoid clicking intrusive ads, especially when visiting dubious websites.
Intrusive advertisements often redirect users to gambling, adult dating, pornography, and other untrustworthy websites that might be malicious and cause problems (such as computer infections or privacy issues). If you encounter these advertisements, check installed extensions, plug-ins and add-ons on your web browser or programs on your computer.
Uninstall all unwanted/unknown entries immediately. If your computer is already infected with Bible Verses, we recommend running a scan with Combo Cleaner Antivirus for Windows to automatically eliminate this browser hijacker.
