Evengsitolightont.info POP-UP Ads

Also Known As: evengsitolightont.info pop-up
Damage level: Medium

What is evengsitolightont[.]info?

evengsitolightont[.]info is yet another rogue website designed to display dubious content and redirect users to various untrustworthy sites. It shares many similarities with renropsitto.infopushnews.onlinepushmobilenews.com, and dozens of other similar websites.

Generally, users visit evengsitolightont[.]info inadvertently, as they are redirected by potentially unwanted applications (PUAs) and ads displayed on other rogue sites. PUAs infiltrate systems without users’ permission, gather information, and deliver intrusive advertisements.

evengsitolightont[.]info pop-up redirects

After successful infiltration, PUAs force-open new browsing tabs/windows and redirect users to evengsitolightont[.]info. This site is designed to determine the visitor's geolocation by checking the IP address. Once the location is determined, evengsitolightont[.]info ascertains whether to display certain content or redirect users even further.

In some cases, evengsitolightont[.]info does both. Users might thus encounter malicious content. For this reason, redirects to and from evengsitolightont[.]info might result in various system infections. As mentioned, unwanted applications also deliver coupon, banner, pop-up, and other similar ads.

These can also redirect to dubious sites and even execute scripts designed to download/install malware. Therefore, clicking them can also lead to system infections. PUAs are also known to gather information. The list of collected data types usually includes (but is not limited to) IP addresses, search queries, URLs visited, and pages viewed.

This information might contain personal details that are shared with third parties (potentially, cyber criminals). These people generate revenue by misusing private information. Therefore, having data-tracking apps installed on your computer might lead to serious privacy issues. You are strongly advised to uninstall all unwanted applications immediately.

Potentially unwanted applications share many similarities. By offering "useful features", they attempt (and often succeed) to give the impression of legitimacy and trick users to install. PUAs are designed only to generate revenue for the developers, and thus regular users receive no real value.

Rather than enabling the functions promised, they cause unwanted redirects, generate intrusive ads, and record user-system information.

How did adware install on my computer?

Potentially unwanted applications are typically proliferated using a deceptive marketing method called "bundling" and intrusive advertisements. "Bundling" is essentially stealth installation of third party applications together with regular software. Developers hide "bundled" apps behind "Custom/Advanced" settings (or other sections) of the download/installation processes.

Furthermore, many users often rush these procedures and skip steps. Additionally, they click various advertisements. This behavior can lead to inadvertent installation of PUAs - users expose their systems to risk of various infections and compromise their privacy.

How to avoid installation of potentially unwanted applications?

There are two steps you should take to prevent this situation. Firstly, never click any intrusive advertisements. Bear in mind that most seem legitimate, since developers invest many resources into their design. In fact, they typically redirect to rogue sites. If you encounter these ads and redirects frequently, eliminate all suspicious applications.

Furthermore, download apps from official sources only, using direct download links. Third party downloaders/installers are monetized using the "bundling" method. Therefore, these tools should never be used. The key to computer safety is caution. If your computer is already infected with rogue applications, we recommend running a scan with Combo Cleaner Antivirus for Windows to automatically eliminate them.

How to avoid browser notification spam?

Internet users should be very skeptical when being asked to allow notifications. While this is a useful feature that allows you to receive timely news from websites you like, deceptive marketers frequently abuse it.

Only allow notifications from websites that you fully trust. For added security - use an anti-malware application with a real-time web browsing monitor to block shady websites that tries to trick you into allowing spam notifications. We recommend using Combo Cleaner Antivirus for Windows.
