Beonline.pw Redirect (Mac)
Written by Tomas Meskauskas on (updated)
What is beonline.pw?
beonline.pw is another fake search engine identical to homesweeklies.com, searchshp.com, searchp.icu, and many others. It offers improved search results and quick access to popular websites. These "useful functions" often trick users into believing that beonline.pw is legitimate.
In fact, developers promote this site using browser-hijacking downloaders/installers that modify browser options without consent. In addition, beonline.pw causes unwanted redirects and gathers information relating to browsing activity.
Research shows that rogue set-ups target Safari, Google Chrome, and Mozilla Firefox. Immediately after infiltration, they assign beonline.pw as the new tab URL, default search engine, and homepage options. Furthermore, set-ups stealthily install a number of "helper objects" (third party applications and/or browser plug-ins).
Although these changes may seem insignificant, users are unable to revert them, since "helper objects" continually reassign browser settings when attempts are made to change them.
Therefore, as long as these apps/add-ons are present, returning browsers to their previous states is impossible and users are encouraged to visit beonline.pw when they search via the URL bar or simply open a new browser tab. This diminishes the browsing experience.
Note that beonline.pw also causes redirects to under-cover.info, search.searchgeniusinfo.com, search.playsearchnow.com, and search.yahoo.com when a search query is entered. Users end up searching the web on these sites, thus making beonline.pw useless. Furthermore, beonline.pw and "helper objects" record data relating to browsing activity.
The list of collected data types usually includes (but is not limited to) search queries, URLs visited, pages viewed, Internet Protocol (IP) addresses, geo-locations, and so on. Collected data might contain personal details that are shared with third parties (potentially, cyber criminals) and misused to generate revenue.
Therefore, data tracking can lead to serious privacy issues or even identity theft. If you encounter redirects to beonline.pw (and the aforementioned websites), you should immediately eliminate all dubious applications and browser plug-ins.

There are thousands of fake search engines, all of which are virtually identical. By offering "useful features" (such as improved results, local weather forecasts, latest news, shortcuts to popular websites, etc.) these sites attempt to give the impression of legitimacy, however, fake search engines usually serve one purpose: to generate revenue for the developers.
Most deliver no real value for regular users, cause unwanted redirects, and gather information relating to browsing habits. This diminishes the browsing experience. In addition, fake search engines often generate false results and intrusive advertisements (typically leading to other potentially malicious websites), thus leading to various system infections.
How did beonline.pw install on my computer?
As mentioned above, beonline.pw is promoted using rogue download/installation set-ups. This is called "bundling". Developers are aware that many users rush when downloading/installing software and skip steps. Therefore, information about modification of browser options is concealed within "Custom/Advanced" settings (or other sections) of the download/installation processes.
By rushing and skipping steps, many users inadvertently grant set-ups permission to modify browser settings, expose their systems to risk of various infections, and compromise their privacy.
How to avoid installation of potentially unwanted applications?
Potentially unwanted applications are distributed using the "bundling" method and intrusive advertisements. Therefore, pay close attention during the download/installation processes and when browsing the Internet in general. Carefully analyze each step of the download/installation processes using the "Custom" or "Advanced" settings.
Opt-out of additional programs and decline offers to download/install them. Intrusive ads usually seem legitimate, since developers invest many resources into the design, but they redirect to dubious websites (e.g., gambling, adult dating, pornography, etc.). Most are delivered by adware-type apps.
Thus, if you encounter dubious redirects, remove all suspicious applications and browser plug-ins. The key to computer safety is caution. If your computer is already infected with browser hijackers, we recommend running a scan with Combo Cleaner Antivirus for macOS to automatically eliminate them.
