Un-blocking Adware
Written by Tomas Meskauskas on (updated)
What is Un-blocking?
Un-blocking is a deceptive application that provides access to geographically-restricted websites that would otherwise be blocked.
This may seem a useful app, however, it is categorized as potentially unwanted application (PUA) and an adware-type app. There are three main reasons for this classification: Un-blocking is often installed unintentionally, delivers intrusive ads, and gathers data.
The Un-blocking app delivers coupons, banners, surveys, pop-ups, and other similar intrusive ads. These are often are displayed using tools that enable placement of third party content on any visited website. They conceal underlying content and, once clicked, redirect users to other untrustworthy websites that might be malicious.
Some of these ads can run scripts that download and install other potentially unwanted applications. They are annoying and could also trigger computer infections. Furthermore, Un-blocking is known to collect information such as IP addresses, geo-locations, search queries, keystrokes, visited websites, and so on.
Later, this data is shared with third parties (potentially cyber criminals) and used to generate revenue for developers. By misusing collected information (that might include personal or sensitive data), developers cause privacy issues and even identity theft. We strongly recommend that you uninstall Un-blocking immediately.

Malware Removal (Windows) | To eliminate possible malware infections, scan your computer with legitimate antivirus software. Our security researchers recommend using Combo Cleaner. |
Un-blocking is one of many adware applications (other examples include PQwick, Media Player 1004, and Screen Recorder) that are very similar or and have an identical purpose: to generate revenue for their developers by gathering data and delivering advertisements.
In many cases, these apps claim to be legitimate by offering "useful" tools, but in fact deliver none of the functionality promised or any other value for regular users. They only cause privacy/browsing safety problems and other issues.
How did Un-blocking install on my computer?
The Un-blocking application can be downloaded from its official website, however, in most cases it is installed together with regular software or through the aforementioned intrusive advertisements.
Developers often use a deceptive marketing method called "bundling" that allows third party applications (PUAs) to be stealthily installed with regular software without users' knowledge. Information about such installations is not properly disclosed and developers hide PUAs in "Custom", "Advanced" and other settings of the installation processes.
In summary, users often install potentially unwanted applications by skipping installation steps without carefully reading the information provided and checking available installation options. Alternatively, they are installed by clicking intrusive ads, especially when visiting dubious websites.
How to avoid installation of potentially unwanted applications?
Download software using official and trustworthy sources. We do not recommend to use third party software downloaders or installers, since most are monetized by promoting potentially unwanted applications.
Check each available option (such as "Custom", "Advanced", and other similar section) of the installation dialogs and ensure that any unwanted offers are deselected before you finish the installation. Bear in mind that intrusive ads often redirect users to untrustworthy websites (such as pornography, gambling, adult dating, and other dubious websites of this type).
If you clicked an ad and were redirected to a dubious website, close it and check for unwanted/suspicious plug-ins, extensions, and add-ons installed on your browser.
Also check installed programs on your computer. Uninstall/remove dubious, unwanted applications (or programs) immediately. If your computer is already infected with Un-blocking, we recommend running a scan with Combo Cleaner Antivirus for Windows to automatically eliminate this adware.
