What is Media Player 1004?
The Media Player 1004 application states that it allows users to play various media using their player. Like many deceptive applications of this type, it may seem legitimate and useful, however, Media Player 1004 is known as potentially unwanted application (PUA) and an adware-type application.
PUAs tend to collect browsing-related information and deliver intrusive advertisements. Media Player 1004 is often installed inadvertently.
As mentioned in our introduction, Media Player 1004, deploys intrusive ads in the form of coupons, banners, surveys, and so on. These are delivered using tools that enable placement of third party graphical content on any site, and conceal underlying content of any visited website.
Due to these ads, users experience a diminished browsing experience and are also redirected to other untrustworthy and potentially malicious websites. Furthermore, they might execute scripts that download and install potentially malicious programs/malware and computers are infected with high-risk computer infections.
In addition, Media Player 1004 gathers browsing-related data consisting of IP addresses, keystrokes, visited websites, entered search queries, geo-locations, and so on. There is a possibility that collected data might include personal information that is shared with third parties (potentially cyber criminals) and used to generate revenue.
These action could lead to privacy issues, or users could end up having their identities stolen. We strongly recommend that you uninstall Media Player 1004 immediately.

How did Media Player 1004 install on my computer?
Research shows that Media Player 1004 is often installed together with other third party software. To achieve this, developers use a deceptive marketing method called "bundling" - stealth installation of potentially unwanted applications such as the Media Player 1004.
To achieve this, developers hide bundled applications in "Custom", "Advanced" settings or options of the installation processes. These installations tend to be not properly disclosed. PUAs developers are aware that users often skip installation steps without checking these settings, and use this behaviour to their advantage.
Skipped installation steps (or clicked intrusive ads) are the main reasons for inadvertent installations of potentially unwanted applications.
