Settting.com POP-UP Redirect
Written by Tomas Meskauskas on (updated)
What is settting.com?
settting.com is a rogue website similar to many others of this type, including rementoolsr.club, secassingly.club, livestream123.info, etc.
It redirects visitors to a number of other untrustworthy sites. Few settting.com visitors arrive at this website intentionally - most are redirected to it by so-called potentially unwanted applications (PUAs) that are often installed without users' knowledge. PUAs cause unwanted redirects, deliver advertisements, and collect information.
Following infiltration, potentially unwanted applications force browsers to redirect users to settting.com, typically by opening a new window or tab. This website then triggers additional (two or three) redirects to other untrustworthy sites that are often malicious and might infect systems.
PUAs also collect information (such as geo-locations, IP addresses, keystrokes, visited websites, search queries, etc.) to generate revenue by sharing it with third parties (potentially cyber criminals). It is possible that the data will contain personally identifiable details or sensitive information. Therefore, users might encounter a number of privacy issues.
Furthermore, information tracking and sharing can result in identity theft. Another downside of potentially unwanted applications is that most also deliver intrusive ads. These are typically displayed as coupons, banners, surveys, pop-ups, and so on.
They conceal underlying content of any visited website and are very likely to redirect users to various potentially malicious/untrustworthy websites or even execute scripts that download and install other PUAs.
In some cases, users start experiencing a reduction in computer performance, since PUAs often run various background tasks (such as cryptocurrency mining). We strongly advise you to uninstall all PUAs immediately.

Potentially unwanted applications of this type are similar or identical and share the same purpose - to generate revenue for their developers. PUA developers typically offer "useful" features, however, in most cases these programs provide none of the functionality promised and deliver no real value for regular users.
How did adware install on my computer?
Potentially unwanted applications typically have official websites where users can find and download them, however, most are installed inadvertently using a deceptive marketing method called "bundling" or through intrusive ads. Bundling is stealth installation of PUAs with regular software (typically ad-supportive or free).
Developers hide these bundled apps in "Custom", "Advanced" and other options/settings of the installation processes. Generally, these installations are not properly disclosed and users are often tricked into installing them. In some cases, potentially unwanted applications are installed when a third party software downloader/installer is used.
How to avoid installation of potentially unwanted applications?
Avoid using various third party software downloaders/installers and torrents. You are advised to download software using official and trustworthy sources only. Do not skip installation steps without first checking "Custom"/"Advanced" settings.
Deselect unwanted offers (in this case, potentially unwanted applications) and only then finish the installation and proceed to the next step. Be cautious when browsing the web - avoid clicking untrustworthy ads, especially when visiting suspicious web pages. Malicious developers invest time and money into ad design and it thus difficult to determine if these ads are legitimate.
If you happen to click an ad that redirects you to an untrustworthy website (gambling, pornography, adult dating, etc.) - close the window or tab immediately and check your browser for unknown/unwanted extensions, plug-ins, and add-ons. The same applies to programs installed on your computer.
If your computer is already infected with rogue applications, we recommend running a scan with Combo Cleaner Antivirus for Windows to automatically eliminate them.
