Softwareupdate.app POP-UP Redirect

What is softwareupdate.app?
Similar or identical to click.new-posts.support, adxfactory.com, and click-now-on-this.online, softwareupdate.app is a rogue website designed to redirect users to other untrustworthy/potentially malicious websites.
As a rule, most users visit softwareupdate.app unintentionally - potentially unwanted apps (PUAs) trigger these redirects. They also deliver intrusive advertisements, gather and share data, and misuse computer resources.
Once installed, potentially unwanted applications force browsers to open new tabs/windows and redirect users to softwareupdate.app, which then triggers additional (typically 2-3) redirects to other dubious sites. There is a high possibility that one of these visited websites will contain malicious content that could harm computers and cause high-risk computer infections.
Furthermore, potentially unwanted applications collect data (such as visited websites, geo-locations, keystrokes, visited websites, search queries, and so on) and then share it with third parties (potentially cyber criminals) to generate revenue. It is very likely that some of the gathered/collected data will contain personally identifiable (or sensitive) information.
These actions can lead to various problems, cause privacy issues, or even identity theft. Furthermore, PUAs generate revenue by gathering and sharing user information, and by delivering intrusive ads. These ads are typically displayed as coupons, banners, surveys, pop-ups, etc., and delivered using tools that enable placement of third party graphical content on any site.
Most conceal website content, thereby diminishing the browsing experience. When clicked, ads of this type tend to redirect users to potentially malicious websites or, in some cases, run scripts that download and install potentially unwanted applications that could be malicious and harm your computer.
Research shows that some potentially unwanted applications, once installed, start to run various background tasks (such as cryptocurrency mining). These tasks can significantly affect overall computer performance. You are strongly advised to uninstall these applications from your computer or browser immediately.

Most potentially unwanted applications offer various "useful" features, however, in most cases, they do not provide the functionality promised and are designed only to generate revenue by delivering unwanted/intrusive advertisements and causing unwanted redirects.
PUAs may seem legitimate, however, once installed, they often cause problems (such as privacy issues) and expose users and their computers to various risks.
How did adware install on my computer?
Many potentially unwanted applications are offered for download on their official websites. In other cases, they are installed through intrusive advertisements, third party software downloaders/installers, or when software developers use a deceptive marketing method called "bundling". Bundling is stealth installation of third party applications with regular (usually free) software.
Developers often do not disclose installation of bundled programs/applications properly and they hide them in "Custom", "Advanced" and other similar sections (options) of the installation processes.
They are aware that many users tend to skip installation steps without checking these settings - they use this behaviour as an advantage to trick users into installing potentially unwanted applications.
How to avoid installation of potentially unwanted applications?
Avoid using software downloaders, torrents, or untrustworthy websites as a source to download software. Use only official websites and direct links. During the software installation process, check all the available "Advanced", "Custom" and other options.
Deselect unwanted offers (such as potentially unwanted applications) and only then finish the installation (or proceed to the next step). Be cautious when surfing the web - avoid clicking on ads. Most malicious advertisements may seem legitimate, since their developers invest time and money in their design.
Once clicked, however, they often redirect to untrustworthy websites (such as gambling, pornography, adult dating, and other similar sites).
If you happen to click of these advertisements and are redirected to a suspicious/dubious website, close the newly-opened browser window (or a tab) and check for unwanted/suspicious extensions, plug-ins, and add-ons installed on your browser, or unwanted programs/applications on your computer.
If you find any, remove them immediately. If your computer is already infected with rogue applications, we recommend running a scan with Combo Cleaner Antivirus for Windows to automatically eliminate them.
