FileSendSuite Toolbar

What is hp.myway.com?
FileSendSuite is a deceptive application developed by Mindspark Interactive Network (now known as IAC Applications). FileSendSuite claims to enhance Internet browsing by easing the file sharing process. Therefore, many users believe that this app is legitimate and useful.
In fact, FileSendSuite often infiltrates systems without permission. Furthermore, it stealthily modifies web browser options. For these reasons, FileSendSuite is categorized as a potentially unwanted program (PUP) and a browser hijacker.
Following successful infiltration, FileSendSuite modifies the Internet Explorer, Google Chrome, and Mozilla Firefox new tab URL, default search engine, and homepage options by assigning them to hp.myway.com. These changes may not seem significant, however, users are unable to revert them.
FileSendSuite continues to reassign these settings when attempts are made to change them. Therefore, users are unable to return browsers to their previous states and are forced to visit hp.myway.com when they search via the URL bar or simply open a new browser tab. This significantly diminishes the web browsing experience.
This behavior is very common to browser-hijacking applications. By promoting various websites (mostly fake search engines), PUPs help developers to generate revenue. Although it is currently unconfirmed if FileSendSuite tracks browsing activity, most other browser hijackers do.
They record various user-system information (for example, IP addresses, website URLs visited, pages viewed, search queries, etc.) that might contain personal details.
Developers later share the collected data with third parties to generate revenue. These people (potentially, cyber criminals) generate revenue by misusing personal information. Therefore, the presence of data-tracking apps can lead to serious privacy issues. We strongly recommend that you uninstall the FileSendSuite browser hijacker immediately.
Name | FileSendSuite browser hijacker |
Threat Type | Browser Hijacker, Redirect, Search Hijacker, Toolbar, Unwanted New Tab |
Symptoms | Manipulated Internet browser(s) settings (homepage, default Internet search engine, new tab settings). User's are forced to visit hijacker's website and search the Internet using their search engines. |
Distribution methods | Deceptive pop-up ads, free software installers (bundling), fake flash player installers. |
Damage | Internet browsing tracking (potential privacy issues), displaying of unwanted ads, redirects to shady websites. |
Malware Removal (Windows) | To eliminate possible malware infections, scan your computer with legitimate antivirus software. Our security researchers recommend using Combo Cleaner. |
FileSendSuite's developers have released dozens of browser-hijacking applications, all of which are identical to FileSendSuite. The list of examples includes (but is not limited to) NewNoteCenter, FileConvertOnline, RecipeHub, MyMapsExpress, and TrackaPackage.
These applications offer different functionality, but have identical behavior. In fact, all browser-hijacking applications have an identical purpose: to generate revenue for the developers.
They deliver no significant value for regular users, promote various websites (by causing unwanted redirects or modifying web browser settings), and record various user-system information (which is later sold to third parties).
Some browser hijackers generate intrusive online advertisements (via the "Pay Per Click" advertising model) that conceal underlying content (significantly diminishing the web browsing experience), and might also redirect to malicious websites or even run scripts that download and install malware/PUPs.
Therefore, even accidental clicks can result in high-risk computer infections. As mentioned above, PUPs promote fake search engines. These sites also generate revenue for the developers. The behavior of fake search engines and PUPs barely differs. Fake search engines also promote other dubious sites (by generating fake results), generate ads, and record data.
Research shows that, as with intrusive ads, fake search results can also lead to malicious websites. Therefore, using a fake Internet search engine is very risky.
How did FileSendSuite install on my computer?
FileSendSuite is free for anyone to download on its official website. Be aware, however, that browser-hijacking applications are also distributed using a deceptive marketing method called "bundling" and the aforementioned intrusive ads. Bundling is stealth installation of third party apps with regular software/apps.
Developers know that users often rush and skip download/installation steps. Therefore, they hide bundled apps within the "Custom" or "Advanced" settings of these processes. Skip these settings and clicking various ads often leads to inadvertent installation of PUPs such as FileSendSuite.
How to avoid installation of potentially unwanted applications?
PUPs are distributed using intrusive ads and the "bundling" method. Therefore, be cautious when browsing the Internet and downloading/installing software. Never click online ads, no matter how tempting they seem. Criminals put a great deal of time and effort into designing these ads.
Therefore, it is virtually impossible to determine if they originate from the visited (legitimate) websites. Furthermore, carefully analyze each download/installation step (using the "Custom/Advanced" settings) and opt-out of all additionally-included programs.
Download your software from official sources only and, if possible, by selecting the direct download URL rather than via third party downloaders. These tools often bundle additional software and using them is very risky. The key to computer safety is caution.
