GamesZing Adware
Written by Tomas Meskauskas on (updated)
What is GamesZing?
GamesZing is a potentially unwanted program (PUP) that supposedly allows users to play various addictive Flash games. These claims often trick users into believing that GamesZing is a legitimate application, however, due to rogue behavior, this application is classed as adware.
GamesZing infiltrates systems without users’ permission, delivers intrusive online advertisements, and continually gathers various information regarding users' web browsing activity.
Once infiltrated, GamesZing uses a 'virtual layer' to generate pop-up, banner, coupon, search, and other similar advertisements. The virtual layer enables placement of third party graphical content on any site including these ads, which often conceal underlying content of visited websites. This significantly diminishes users' web browsing experience.
Furthermore, the ads might redirect to malicious websites - even accidental clicks can result in high-risk adware or malware infections. Another downside of GamesZing is information tracking. This PUP records IP addresses, website URLs visited, pages viewed, search queries entered, and other similar information relating to Internet browsing activity.
Initially, this data may seem insignificant, however, it might be personally identifiable. The developers of GamesZing share this data with cooperating third party persons who often misuse private details to generate revenue.
Thus, the presence of an information-tracking app on your system can lead to serious privacy issues or even identity theft. For these reasons, we strongly advise you to uninstall GamesZing adware immediately.
There are dozens of potentially unwanted programs identical to GamesZing. Examples include Kozzoo, DynamiteArcade, FunOnlinePlay, and many others. As with GamesZing, the aforementioned applications also offer functionality supposedly allowing users to play various arcade games.
These claims, however, are merely attempts to trick users to install. Research shows that adware-type applications are designed only to generate revenue for the developers by generating intrusive online advertisements and collecting personally identifiable information.
How did GamesZing install on my computer?
GamesZing has an official download website, however, it is also promoted using a deceptive software marketing method called 'bundling'. Therefore, many users install this app inadvertently. Bundling is essentially stealth installation of potentially unwanted programs with regular software.
Developers hide third party software such as GamesZing within the 'Custom/Advanced' settings of the download/installation processes. Rushing and skipping this section often leads to inadvertent installation of potentially unwanted programs.
How to avoid installation of potentially unwanted applications?
This situation can be prevented by taking two simple steps. Firstly, never rush when downloading and installing software. Closely analyze each step using the 'Custom' or 'Advanced' settings. Secondly, opt-out of all additionally-included programs and decline all offers to download or install them.
