SysSecure Adware
Written by Tomas Meskauskas on (updated)
What is SysSecure?
Developed by Hahomedia, SysSecure is a potentially unwanted program (PUP) that infiltrates the system during installation of other programs. Furthermore, SysSecure continually generates various intrusive online advertisements and monitors browsing activity. For these reasons, this PUP is classed as adware.
After system infiltration, SysSecure employs a 'virtual layer' to generate pop-up, banner, coupon, and a number of other similar advertisement types. The virtual layer enables placement of third party graphical content on any site and, therefore, intrusive advertisements often conceal underlying content of visited websites.
Ads generated by SysSecure significantly diminish the web browsing experience. In addition, some lead to malicious websites - clicking them can result in further high-risk adware or malware infections.
Furthermore, SysSecure continually tracks users' web browsing activity and gathers various browsing-related information including Internet Protocol (IP) addresses, websites visited, pages viewed, search queries entered into search engines, cookies, unique identifier numbers, and other similar data.
This data might seem insignificant, it is likely to contain personally identifiable details that Hahomedia shares with cooperating third parties who misuse private data to generate revenue. Thus, the presence of an information-tracking application on your system might lead to serious privacy issues or even identity theft. We strongly advise you to uninstall SysSecure adware immediately.
SysSecure is similar to GenieGamer, Martian Arcade, Swiki, and hundreds of other potentially unwanted adware-type apps. All are designed to generate revenue for the developers. By claiming to provide 'valuable functionality', adware-type apps attempt to trick users to install.
In fact, SysSecure and other adware provides no significant value for users. These apps cause unwanted browser redirects, collect personally identifiable information, and continually deliver intrusive content-concealing advertisements.
How did SysSecure install on my computer?
SysSecure is distributed using a deceptive software marketing method called 'bundling' - stealth installation of dubious applications with regular (often legitimate) software. For this reason, many users install this application inadvertently.
Developers either hide PUPs within the 'Custom/Advanced' settings of the download/installation processes, or provide installation details in a very small font, which makes it practically unnoticeable. Therefore, users who rush when downloading and installing software often install bogus applications such as SysSecure inadvertently.
How to avoid installation of potentially unwanted applications?
To prevent this situation, be cautious when downloading and installing software. Analyze these procedures using the 'Custom' or 'Advanced' settings, since bundled apps are often hidden at this stage. Furthermore, decline all offers to download/install third party software and cancel any apps already included. Bundled software is often rogue and, thus, should never be installed.
