GenieGamer Adware

What is GenieGamer?
GenieGamer is a potentially unwanted program (PUP) that supposedly allows users to play various addictive arcade games. On initial inspection, GenieGamer may seem legitimate and useful, however, due to rogue behavior, this PUP is classed as adware.
One of the main reasons for these negative associations is stealth installation without users' consent - GenieGamer often infiltrates systems during installation of other programs. Once infiltrated, this PUP generates various intrusive online advertisements and tracks users' web browsing activity.
GenieGamer generates pop-up, interstitial, transitional, full-page, and a number of other intrusive advertisement types. These ads are generated using a 'virtual layer' (a tool that enables placement of third party graphical content on any site). Therefore, the displayed advertisements often conceal underlying content of users' visited websites.
This significantly diminishes the web browsing experience. In addition, they often redirect to malicious websites containing infectious content - clicking them is risky and can lead to further computer infections.
Furthermore, this PUP collects search queries entered into search engines, website URLS visited, pages viewed, Internet Protocol (IP) addresses (to determine geographic location), and other similar browsing-related data.
This information may seem insignificant, however, it can include personally identifiable details that developers of GenieGamer share with cooperating third parties (who misuse private data to generate revenue).
Thus, the presence of an information-tracking app on your system could lead to serious privacy issues or even identity theft. If you have installed GenieGamer inadvertently, eliminate this application from your system.
Research show that there are hundreds of adware-type applications similar to GenieGamer. Examples include Music Manager, Swiki, Martian Arcade, etc.
All falsely claim to provide valuable functionality simply to trick users to install. Neither GenieGamer, nor any other adware, provides users with any significant value. All are designed to generate revenue for the developers. These apps merely generate intrusive online advertisements, collect private data, and often cause unwanted browser redirects.
How did GenieGamer install on my computer?
Research shows that, although GenieGamer has an official download website, many users install this application inadvertently without their consent, since they do not pay enough attention during the download/installation processes and skip most/all steps. Aware of this, developers usually hide PUPs within the 'Custom' or 'Advanced' settings of these procedures.
This deceptive software marketing method is called 'bundling'. By skipping the aforementioned section, users expose their systems to risk of various infections and put their privacy at risk.
How to avoid installation of potentially unwanted applications?
Potentially unwanted programs are often distributed using the bundling method. Therefore, it is important to closely analyze each step of the download and installation processes. Select the 'Custom/Advanced' settings, look for any additionally-included apps, and cancel them. Bundled software is often dubious and should never be installed.
