What is Martian Arcade?
The Martian Arcade (MartianArcade) application supposedly allows users to play various arcade games.
On initial inspection, Martian Arcade may seem legitimate and useful, however, this app is classed as adware and a potentially unwanted program (PUP), since it infiltrates systems without users’ permission, causes unwanted browser redirects, and continually delivers various intrusive online advertisements.
Martian Arcade employs a 'virtual layer' to generate pop-up, coupon, banner, text, and other similar ads. This enables placement of third party graphical content on any site - therefore, none of the displayed advertisements originate from users' visited websites.
This third party content, such as pop-up, or banner advertisements, often conceals underlying content of visited websites and significantly diminishes the browsing experience. In addition, these ads often redirect to malicious websites - clicking them risks further adware or malware infections.
Research shows that Martian Arcade continually gathers IP addresses (to determine geo-location), search queries entered into search engines, websites visited, pages viewed, and other similar data. This information may seems insignificant, however, it might contain personally identifiable details that developers of Martian Arcade share with cooperating third party companies.
These third parties often misuse private data to generate revenue, potentially causing serious privacy issues or even identity theft. Therefore, you are strongly advised to uninstall Martian Arcade adware immediately.
There are hundreds of PUPs very similar to Martian Arcade (for instance, Search Expanse, Window Frame, Search Adventure, etc.) Adware-type applications are designed only to generate revenue for the developers and none provide any real value for users.
By giving promises to enable various functions, these apps attempt to trick users to install. In fact, rather than improving the browsing experience, these apps simply collect personally identifiable information, deliver intrusive online advertisements, and often cause unwanted browser redirects.
How did Martian Arcade install on my computer?
Although Martian Arcade has an official download website, many users install this app inadvertently, since they do not pay enough attention during the download and installation processes.
The developers of Martian Arcade use a deceptive software marketing method called 'bundling' (stealth installation of PUPs with regular software) and hide third party applications within the 'Custom/Advanced' settings of this stage. Therefore, users who skip this section, often install PUPs such as Martian Arcade inadvertently.
How to avoid installation of potentially unwanted applications?
To prevent potentially unwanted programs from infiltrating your system, be cautious when downloading and installing software. Always use the 'Custom/Advanced' settings and follow each step. Furthermore, opt-out of all additionally-included applications and decline all offers to download or install them.
