What is GamesBlox?
GamesBlox is a deceptive application that supposedly allows users to play various addictive Flash games. On initial inspection, GamesBlox may seem legitimate and useful, however, this app is classed as a potentially unwanted program (PUP) and adware.
One of the main reasons for these negative associations is stealth installation - GamesBlox usually infiltrates systems without users’ permission. Following successful infiltration, GamesBlox generates intrusive online advertisements and tracks Internet browsing activity.
To deliver intrusive online advertisements, GamesBlox employs a 'virtual layer' - a tool that enables placement of third party graphical content on any site. Displayed advertisements often conceal underlying content of visited websites, thereby significantly diminishing the Internet browsing experience.
Many users are unaware that these ads do not originate from their visited websites and can lead to malicious websites - clicking them is risky and might cause further computer infections. Another downside of GamesBlox is data tracking.
This PUP continually records IP addresses, websites visited, pages viewed, and other similar information that might be personally identifiable. In addition, this collected data is shared with cooperating third parties who misuse personal details to generate revenue.
This can lead to serious privacy issues or even identity theft. For these reasons, you are strongly advised to remove GamesBlox adware from your system immediately.
Research shows that the characteristics of this adware are very similar to FiziPop, FirstFlix, ArcadeIsle, and many other adware infections. Be aware that these apps are designed only to generate revenue for the developers. GamesBlox, and other adware, provides no value for users.
These applications simply collect personally identifiable information, deliver intrusive advertisements, and often cause unwanted browser redirects. Claims to enable useful functionality are merely attempts to give the impression of legitimate software.
How did GamesBlox install on my computer?
Although GamesBlox has an official promotion website, many users download and install this application inadvertently, since they often do not pay enough attention during the download/installation processes.
Aware of this, developers hide potentially unwanted programs within the 'Custom/Advanced' settings of these procedures. Skipping this section commonly leads inadvertent installation of bogus programs. This deceptive software marketing method is called 'bundling'.
How to avoid installation of potentially unwanted applications?
There are two main steps you should take to prevent this situation. Firstly, closely analyze each step within the 'Custom/Advanced' settings section. Secondly, decline all offers to download/install applications and opt-out of those already included. Bundled apps are often malicious and, thus, should never be installed.
