Surprise Ransomware

What is Surprise?

Surprise is a ransomware developed using the source code of open-source ransomware called 'EDA2, which is written in the C# programming language'. Research shows that cyber criminals remotely install Surprise ransomware via the TeamViewer application.

This malware is designed to stealthily infiltrate the victim's computer and encrypt stored files. During encryption, the ransomware adds a .surprise or .tzu extensions to each encrypted file. Two files are then created: DECRYPTION_HOWTO.Notepad and Encrypted_Files.Notepad.

Be aware that files are encrypted using the AES algorithm and, therefore, can only be decrypted using a private key, which is generated during encryption. In exchange for this key, developers of Surprise demand victims pay a ransom.

TopFlix is a dubious application that supposedly allows users to enter U.S. websites that are blocked in other countries - "Using our DNS service, you can access U.S. restricted content." By giving these fake promises, TopFlix gives the impression of legitimate and useful software.

GameOn is a dubious browser toolbar/add-on identical to Muzik Fury. It claims to provide quick access to various Flash games. On initial inspection, this functionality may seem legitimate and useful, however, GameOn often infiltrates systems without users’ permission.
