Fedsit.com Redirect
Written by Tomas Meskauskas on (updated)
What is fedsit.com?
fedsit.com is a rogue website designed to redirect to other suspicious sites. Research shows that users often visit fedsit.com inadvertently - they are redirected by various potentially unwanted programs (PUPs) that infiltrate systems during installation of regular software (the "bundling" method).
In addition, PUPs continually deliver intrusive online advertisements and monitor users' Internet browsing activity.
Following infiltration, PUPs randomly open new browsing windows and redirect users to fedsit.com, which immediately redirects to another random site. These random sites might be malicious and the redirects can lead to high-risk computer infections.
Furthermore, PUPs deliver coupon, banner, pop-up, and other similar advertisements that might also lead to websites containing malicious content. Even accidental clicks can result in further adware or malware infections. In addition, these ads often conceal underlying content, significantly diminishing the web browsing experience.
PUPs track browsing activity by recording various data that might be personally identifiable. The collected data is later shared with third parties who misuse personally identifiable data to generate revenue. This behavior can lead to serious privacy issues or even identity theft. We strongly recommend that you uninstall all PUPs immediately.
fedsit.com is identical to go2jump.org, pipeschannels.com, tradedoubler.com, and many other websites with identical behavior. PUPs are also virtually identical. By offering 'useful features', they often trick users into believing that these programs are legitimate and useful, however, their only purpose is to generate revenue for the developers.
Rather than providing any significant value for regular users, PUPs cause unwanted redirects (thereby increasing traffic of various websites), deliver intrusive advertisements (via the "Pay Per Click" advertising model), and continually record sensitive information (which is later sold to third parties).
How did adware install on my computer?
As mentioned above, PUPs are distributed using a deceptive marketing method called bundling. Developers know that users often rush the download/installation processes and skip steps. Therefore, they hide bundled programs within the "Custom" or "Advanced" settings. Skipping this section exposes systems to risk of various infections and compromises users' privacy.
How to avoid installation of potentially unwanted applications?
There are two simple steps you should take to prevent this situation: 1) closely analyze each download/installation step within the "Custom/Advanced" options, and; 2) decline offers to download/install third party applications and cancel those already included. The key to computer safety is caution.
