What is OriginalEngineSearch?

OriginalEngineSearchn is an adware-type application with browser hijacker traits. Following successful installation, it runs intrusive advertisement campaigns and makes alterations to browser settings to promote fake search engines. Most apps of this type (adware and browser hijackers) have data tracking capabilities, which are employed to monitor browsing activity.

Due to the dubious techniques used to proliferate OriginalEngineSearch, it is classified as a Potentially Unwanted Application (PUA). One of these distribution methods is via fake Adobe Flash Player updaters. Note that bogus software updaters and installers are not used to proliferate PUAs exclusively, they also spread Trojans, ransomware and other malware.

What is Kutaki?

Kutaki is a typical keylogger (keystroke logger) software that captures keyboard input. Cyber criminals use programs of this type to steal sensitive information, which can be misused to generate revenue in various ways. Victims are often unaware that their actions are being monitored.

If Kutaki or another keylogger is installed on the operating system, it should be eliminated immediately.

   
Aim Ransomware

What is Aim ransomware?

Aim is malware belonging to a family of ransomware called Dharma. It renames all encrypted files by adding the victim's ID, the Smith1@mailfence.com email address and appending the ".Aim" extension to filenames. For example, "1.jpg" would become "1.jpg.id-C279F237.[Smith1@mailfence.com].Aim", "2.jpg" to "2.jpg.id-C279F237.[Smith1@mailfence.com].Aim", etc.

Aim also displays a pop-up window with instructions about how to contact the cyber criminals behind responsible and creates another ransom message in a file named "FILES ENCRYPTED.txt".

"Your account has encountered an error 505" refers to a spam campaign distributing phishing emails. The term "spam campaign" is used to define a large-scale operation, during which thousands of deceptive/scam emails are sent. The messages distributed through this spam campaign claim that recipients' email accounts have been blocked.

To unblock them, they must re-verify their email accounts. This spam campaign steals recipients' email account log-in credentials (i.e. passwords) by asking users to verify their accounts via a phishing website.

Some of the main functionality of this malware includes modification of displayed websites, stealing of log-in credentials (i.e. usernames and passwords) and other data relating to browsing activity, collection of information from certain messaging platforms, data encryption for the purpose of making ransom demands for decryption, and so on.

XCSSET is a high-risk malicious program, and its infections pose a significant threat to device and user safety. This malware has been observed being distributed inadvertently by various developers - sharing their Xcode projects, which have been stealthily compromised and injected with malicious code.
