ArcadeCandy Ads

What is ArcadeCandy?
ArcadeCandy is supposedly an app allowing users to play 'Premium' games from its official website. Although this functionality may seem legitimate, ArcadeCandy is an adware-type application and a potentially unwanted program (PUP), since it stealthily infiltrates Internet browsers without users' consent, displays intrusive online advertisements, and collects Internet browsing-related information.
ArcadeCandy delivers various types of intrusive online advertisements including (but not limited to) banner, pop-up, and interstitial ads. Most of these advertisements redirect to e-commerce websites such as online stores, however, there is a high probability that users will be redirected to rogue sites containing infectious content.
Thus, clicking these ads can lead to high-risk adware or malware infections. Furthermore, the displayed ads do not originate from the visited websites and conceal underlying content. This significantly diminishes the Internet browsing experience and is achieved using a virtual layer, which enables placement of any graphical content on visited websites.
In addition, ArcadeCandy gathers IP addresses, websites visited, pages viewed, search queries, cookies, browser and operating system types, and other Internet browsing-related information. Some of this collected data may contain personally identifiable details, which is is later shared with third parties.
Thus, having ArcadeCandy installed on your system may cause serious privacy issues. For these reasons, we strongly advise that you uninstall ArcadeCandy from your system immediately.
This applicaiton is similar to tens of other PUPs offering identical features including GameZooks, Teras Games, CrushArcade, and ArcadeYum. These are just some examples from a long list. By offering 'useful features', adware-type applications attempt to trick users to install.
If successful, they provide none of the promised functionality but go on to display intrusive online advertisements (via the 'Pay Per Click' - PPC - advertising model) and gather personally identifiable information (which is later shared with third parties). These applications are designed only to generate revenue for the developers - they deliver no real value for users.
How did ArcadeCandy install on my computer?
ArcadeCandy is available for download on its official website, however, users often install this adware with regular (usually free) software. Many users are unaware that developers intentionally conceal rogue applications within the 'Custom' or 'Advanced' settings.
By rushing the download and installation processes and skipping most/all steps, users can inadvertently install PUPs, thereby exposing their systems to risk of infection.
How to avoid installation of potentially unwanted applications?
Installation of bogus apps can be prevented by closely analyzing the download and installation processes. Use the 'Custom' or 'Advanced' options, rather than 'Quick' or 'Typical'. Closely observe each step and opt-out of all additional programs listed for download/installation. The key to computer safety is caution. Do not rush these processes.
