How to remove PDFConverterHQ from your operating system?

Also Known As: PDFConverterHQ browser hijacker
Damage level: Medium

What is hp.myway.com?

Developed by Mindspark Interactive Network, PDFConverterHQ is a dubious browser extension claiming to allow users to convert various files (for example, .DOC) to .PDF. Initially, this functionality may seem legitimate, however, PDFConverterHQ often infiltrates systems without users’ permission, hijacks web browsers, and modifies their settings.

Furthermore, this bogus browser toolbar continually tracks users' web browsing activity. It is also classified as a PUA (Potentially Unwanted Application), due to its questionable proliferation methods.

PDFConverterHQ browser hijacker

PDFConverterHQ targets Internet Explorer, Google Chrome, and Mozilla Firefox. After hijacking these browsers, this extension assigns the new tab URL, homepage, and default search engine browser settings to home.tb.ask.com. When users attempt to change the modified settings, PDFConverterHQ immediately reassigns them to home.tb.ask.com.

Therefore, users are unable to return browsers to their previous states and continually encounter unwanted browser redirects to home.tb.ask.com, thereby significantly diminishing the Internet browsing experience. Another downside of PDFConverterHQ is information tracking.

This bogus toolbar gathers various data relating to web browsing activity including IP addresses, search queries, websites visited, pages viewed, and other similar information, This data may seem insignificant, however, it will contain private details that the developers of PDFConverterHQ share with third parties (who misuse private details to generate revenue).

Therefore, the presence of an information-tracking app such as PDFConverterHQ on your system can lead to serious privacy issues or even identity theft. You are strongly advised to uninstall this PUA immediately.

There are many other dubious toolbars identical to PDFConverterHQ. Examples include MyTelevisionHQ, SimplePackageFinder, MapMyWayFree and QuickTemplateFinder. They offer different features, and yet, all have identical behavior and are designed only to generate revenue for the developers.

Thus, data tracking can lead to serious privacy issues. None of this software improves the web browsing experience. PDFConverterHQ, and other identical plug-ins, simply collect personally identifiable information and cause unwanted browser redirect

How did PDFConverterHQ install on my computer?

To successfully promote this browser hijacker, developers employ a deceptive software marketing method called 'bundling' - stealth installation of PUAs with regular software/apps. Research shows that many users do not express enough caution during the download/installation processes.

For this reason, developers intentionally conceal potentially unwanted applications within the 'Custom' or 'Advanced' download/installation section.

By skipping this section, users expose their systems to risk of infection. PDFConverterHQ also has 'official' download sites, from which it can be downloaded. Intrusive advertisements spread these apps as well. Once clicked on, they can execute scripts to download/install PUAs without user permission

How to avoid installation of potentially unwanted applications?

Be attentive when downloading and installing software. Closely analyze all steps of these processes. Furthermore, all additionally-included programs should be cancelled, since bundled software is typically nonoperational and untrustworthy. Only use official and verified download sources.

When browsing, exercise caution, as intrusive ads appear legitimate and harmless. If you are experiencing such advertisements and/or undesirable redirects, be sure to inspect the system and remove all suspicious applications and/or browser extensions/plug-ins without delay.

If your computer is already infected with PDFConverterHQ, we recommend running a scan with Combo Cleaner Antivirus for Windows to automatically eliminate this browser hijacker.
