What is JellySplit?
JellySplit is presented as a legitimate app that significantly improves the Internet browsing experience by rendering various interactive content within the browser.
On initial inspection, this functionality may seem legitimate, however, JellySplit is categorized as adware and a potentially unwanted program (PUP). This is due to its rogue behavior, which includes display of intrusive online advertisements, tracking of Internet browsing activity, and installation without users' consent.
JellySplit displays intrusive online advertisements (pop-up, pop-under, banner, inline text, coupon, comparison shopping, etc) that often appear identical to those generated by regular software/apps. Many users are unaware that ads generated by this PUP do not originate from their visited websites.
By concealing visited website content, ads generated by JellySplit significantly diminish the Internet browsing experience. Furthermore, some redirect to malicious sites that might contain infectious content - accidental clicks on advertisements delivered by JellySplit can lead to high-risk adware or malware infections.
In addition, users' Internet browsing activity is continually monitored, since JellySplit gathers various user/system information. Some of this data might be personally identifiable that the developers of JellySplit share with third parties. Shared personal data can be misused to generate revenue.
This behavior can lead to serious privacy issues or even identity theft. For this reason, you should uninstall JellySplit immediately.
There are many adware-type applications identical to JellySplit including, for instance, PrintOnKey, LolliScan, FutureGames, and FlashBeat. All offer identical features, and yet, none provide any real value for users. Apps such as JellySplit are designed only to generate revenue for the developers.
They generate intrusive online advertisements and track Internet browsing activity, putting users' privacy and computer safety at risk.
How did JellySplit install on my computer?
This PUP is distributed as a 'bundle' with other software. The developers are aware that many users do not express enough caution when downloading and installing software. For this reason, applications such as JellySplit are intentionally concealed within the 'Custom' or 'Advanced' settings.
Unaware that rogue apps will be hidden, users often rush the download and installation processes, thereby inadvertently installing potentially unwanted software. Developers' revenue is dependent on the number of PUPs distributed and, thus, they do not disclose these additional installations.
How to avoid installation of potentially unwanted applications?
To prevent installation of adware-type programs, be attentive when downloading and installing programs. Most PUPs are concealed and, therefore, you should select the 'Custom' or 'Advanced' download/installation options, rather than 'Quick' or 'Typical'.
In addition, all additionally-included programs should be cancelled, since there is a high probability that some will be malicious.
