What is FastoPlayer?
FastoPlayer is supposedly a media player that provides a wide range of media-related features (for example, video download, format conversion, file sharing, etc.) - "Fasto player - The fastest player you will ever use! Our FAST media player with Automatic sub-title download and private browsing.
Plays, downloads and bookmarks all popular video formats. Build your video library!" These false claims often trick users to install, however, be aware that FastPlayer generates intrusive online advertisements and tracks Internet browsing activity. This app is categorized as a potentially unwanted program (PUP) and adware.
FastoPlayer uses 'virtual layer' to generate pop-up, banner, coupon, and other similar intrusive advertisements. This tool enables placement of third party graphical content on any websites visited. By concealing visited website content, intrusive online advertisements significantly diminish the Internet browsing experience. In addition, some redirect to malicious sites.
There is a high probability that these sites will contain infectious content - clicking ads generated by FastoPlayer might cause further adware or malware infections.
Furthermore, FastoPlayer records various information including Internet Protocol (IP) addresses (to determine geographic location), URLs visited, search queries entered into search engines (Google, Bing, Yahoo, etc.), and other similar data. Some of this information might be personally identifiable, which the developers share with third parties to generate revenue.
Thus, having an information-tracking app installed on your system can lead to serious privacy issues or even identity theft. If you are concerned with your privacy and Internet browsing safety, uninstall FastoPlayer immediately.
There are hundreds of applications with similar characteristics to FastoPlayer. OneSoftPerDay, Candle Jar, and QuickyTranslator are just some examples from a long list. Although, most adware claims to enhance the Internet browsing experience in certain ways, none provides users with any real value.
Applications such as FastoPlayer are developed to generate revenue for the developers. These apps merely generate intrusive online advertisements and continually track users' Internet browsing activity.
How did FastoPlayer install on my computer?
As with other regular adware, FastoPlayer is also distributed using a deceptive software marketing method called 'bundling'. Many users do not express enough caution when downloading and installing software. They are unaware that the developers hide rogue applications such as FastoPlayer within the 'Custom' or 'Advanced' settings.
By rushing these processes and skipping most steps, they often install potentially unwanted programs inadvertently. In doing so, they compromise their privacy at risk and expose their systems to risk of further infection.
How to avoid installation of potentially unwanted applications?
Prevent installation of adware-type programs by taking two simple steps. Firstly, be attentive when downloading and installing software. Closely analyze these processes using the 'Custom' or 'Advanced' settings. Secondly, decline all third party applications listed for download/installation, since bundled software is mostly rogue.
