ZipperNew Adware
Written by Tomas Meskauskas on (updated)
What is ZipperNew?
According to the developers, ZipperNew is the best file compressing/decompressing software - "Zipper is the best alternative for decompressing your files. It's clear and simple interface makes compression and decompression effective, and above all, fast."
Initially, this app might appear legitimate and useful, however, be aware that ZipperNew continually generates intrusive online advertisements and tracks Internet browsing activity. Furthermore, it usually infiltrates systems without users’ permission and is, thus, categorized as a potentially unwanted adware-type program (PUP).
Following successful infiltration, ZipperNew employs a 'virtual layer' to generate intrusive online advertisements such as banners and pop-ups. The virtual layer enables placement of third party graphical content. None of the ads originate from visited sites and conceal underlying web content, thereby significantly diminishing the Internet browsing experience.
Furthermore, some redirect to infectious sites - clicking any advertisements generated by ZipperNew is risky and may cause adware or malware infections.
ZipperNew continually tracks users' Internet browsing activity and gathers various information including IP addresses, website URLs visited, pages viewed, search queries entered into search engines, and other similar browsing-related information that might contain personally identifiable details.
This data is later shared with third parties who can misuse it to generate revenue, and therefore, having ZipperNew installed on your system can lead to serious privacy issues or even identity theft. You are strongly advised to uninstall this PUP immediately.
ZipperNew is identical to ViperDJ, FullAudioConverter, FullVideoConverter Pro, and a number of other adware-type programs. Although all offer different features, they are all developed by one company and have identical behavior. The real purpose of ZipperNew, and other listed applications, is to generate revenue for the developers.
Rather than providing the functionality promised, these apps continually deliver intrusive online advertisements (using the 'Pay Per Click’ [PPC] advertising model) and collect personally identifiable information (which is later sold to third party companies).
How did ZipperNew install on my computer?
ZipperNew is distributed using a deceptive software marketing method called 'bundling', and therefore, it often infiltrates systems without users’ consent.
Bundled applications are commonly concealed within the 'Custom' or 'Advanced' settings. Unaware of this, many users rush the download and installation processes and skip most/all steps. In doing so, they inadvertently install potentially unwanted programs such as ZipperNew, expose their systems to risk of further infection, and compromise their privacy.
How to avoid installation of potentially unwanted applications?
The download and installation processes should not be rushed. The key to computer safety is caution. Closely analyze all steps using the 'Custom' or 'Advanced' settings. Research shows that bundled third party applications are often bogus, and therefore, you should never accept installation of them.
