MediaPlayerVideoz Adware
Written by Tomas Meskauskas on (updated)
What is MediaPlayerVideoz?
MediaPlayerVideoz is a bogus application identical to MediaPlayerVideos, MediaPlayVid, Media Player Enhance, and several other apps. It is presented as a legitimate program that supposedly improves the online video experience.
On initial inspection, this app may seem legitimate and useful, however, be aware that MediaPlayerVideoz infiltrates systems without users’ permission, generates intrusive ads, and tracks Internet browsing activity. This app is categorized as adware and a potentially unwanted program (PUP).
Pop-up, banner, and interstitial are just some examples from a list of advertisements delivered by MediaPlayerVideoz. This app employs a 'virtual layer' to generate these ads and none originate from visited web pages. Note that third party advertisements often conceal underlying web content, thereby diminishing the Internet browsing experience.
Additionally, some redirect to malicious sites - clicking them may lead to high-risk adware or malware infections. Furthermore, MediaPlayerVideoz continually monitors Internet browsing activity, collecting various information that might be personally identifiable including Internet Protocol addresses, geolocation, website URLs visited, and other collected browsing data.
This is shared with third parties who can misuse private details to generate revenue. Thus, the presence of MediaPlayerVideoz on your system can result in serious privacy issues or even identity theft. You should eliminate this adware immediately.
MediaPlayerVideoz is identical to the above apps and has very similar characteristics to other regular adware. For instance, Video Tile, SensePlus, and CoupSeek also offer 'useful' functionality.
In fact, all adware gives fake promises simply to trick users to install. Following successful infiltration, these applications merely generate ads and collect personal data. They are created to generate revenue and provide no significant value for users.
How did MediaPlayerVideoz install on my computer?
MediaPlayerVideoz is mostly distributed using a deceptive software marketing method called 'bundling' - stealth installation of third party software with regular software/apps. The problem is that many users do not pay enough attention when downloading and installing software - they rush these processes and skip most/all steps.
Therefore, developers intentionally conceal rogue applications within the 'Custom/Advanced' settings. By skipping this section, users often install potentially unwanted programs such as MediaPlayerVideoz inadvertently.
How to avoid installation of potentially unwanted applications?
Installation of adware-type applications can be prevented by closely analyzing the download and installation processes. Select the 'Custom' or 'Advanced' settings and closely analyze each step. Furthermore, never accept offers to install additional programs and opt-out of any already included, since bundled apps are often classed as rogue and should never be installed.
