MusicOptimizerLab Adware
Written by Tomas Meskauskas on (updated)
What is MusicOptimizerLab?
Identical to MobilePCStarterKit, PackEditorTools, and Games Desktop, MusicOptimizerLab is a deceptive application that (according to the developers, Tuto4Pc) provides users with access to various audio-related software - "Get all the best music softwares and make your computer sound like a professional audio studio."
At first glance, MusicOptimizerLab might seem a legitimate and useful application, however, this app is classed as a potentially unwanted adware-type program (PUP) that infiltrates systems without users' consent. After successful infiltration, MusicOptimizerLab continually monitors Internet browsing activity and delivers various intrusive online ads.
MusicOptimizerLab employs a 'virtual layer' to generate coupon, in-text, banner, and other intrusive online advertisements. The virtual layer enables placement of third party graphical content on any site, and thus, no ads originate from the visited websites and conceal underlying content, thereby significantly diminishing the Internet browsing experience.
Although most redirect to various e-commerce websites, some may redirect to malicious sites containing infectious content. Therefore, clicking them exposes systems to further high-risk adware or malware infections. Additionally, MusicOptimizerLab gathers software and hardware information relating to users' Internet browsing activity.
Many users believe that details such as websites visited, pages viewed, search queries, Internet Protocol (IP) addresses, etc. are insignificant, however, they contains personal details. Most of the data is shared with cooperating third party companies who can misuse it to generate revenue.
Thus, having MusicOptimizerLab installed on your system can lead to serious privacy issues or even identity theft. You are strongly advised to uninstall this PUP immediately.
This PUP shares many similarities with other adware-type applications such as Fresh Outlook, ScrollUp, and Discover Treasure. Be aware that adware-type applications are designed to give fake promises simply to trick users to install. Following successful infiltration, however, these apps provide none of the functionality promised.
They generate intrusive online advertisements and collect personally identifiable information. Their real purpose is to generate revenue for the developers - users receive no real value.
How did MusicOptimizerLab install on my computer?
MusicOptimizerLab is mostly distributed as a 'bundle' with other software. The problem is that many users rush when downloading and installing software. They skip the 'Custom' or 'Advanced' settings section where potentially unwanted programs such as MusicOptimizerLab usually hide.
This leads to inadvertent installation of rogue applications. The developers are concerned only with the amount of revenue generated, which is dependent on the number of applications distributed, and thus, they do not properly disclose installation of PUPs.
How to avoid installation of potentially unwanted applications?
Installation of PUPs similar to MusicOptimizerLab can be prevented by closely analyzing each step of the software download and installation procedures.
These processes should be performed with the 'Custom' or 'Advanced' settings, rather than 'Quick' or 'Typical'. Most rogue applications are concealed within these settings - only by closely following each step of download and installation processes will you be able to decline these installations.
