What is PuddingQuotes?
PuddingQuotes is presented as a browser plug-in that enables users to find professionals (qualified in certain spheres) within the local area - "The PuddingQuotes widget is a tool for quickly finding qualified, available professionals in your area. It’s extremely convenient, because unlike regular search, our widget shows only relevant professionals in your area, only when you need them."
Some users may believe that PuddingQuotes is a legitimate browser extension, however, this add-on is categorized as a potentially unwanted program (PUP) and adware. PuddingQuotes infiltrates the Internet Explorer, Google Chrome, and Mozilla Firefox browsers without users' permission, displays intrusive advertisements, and continually monitors Internet browsing activity.
PuddingQuotes generates various intrusive online advertisements including (but not limited to) pop-up, coupon, and price comparison ads. All are displayed using a 'virtual layer' and none originate from the visited websites. Third party advertisements conceal underlying web content, thereby significantly diminishing the Internet browsing experience.
Most redirect to e-commerce websites (such as online stores), however, some users will be redirected to infectious sites. Thus, clicking them is risky and may lead to further computer infections.
Furthermore, PuddingQuotes collects various Internet browsing-related information (some of which might be personally identifiable) including Internet Protocol (IP) addresses, website URLs visited, pages viewed, search queries, cookies, etc. This information is later shared with third parties and can be misused to generate revenue.
Therefore, PuddingQuotes poses a direct threat to your privacy. If you are concerned with your privacy and Internet browsing safety, uninstall this adware immediately.
PuddingQuotes Privacy Policy regarding information sharing:
We may share Information, including PII, with our parent company, any subsidiaries, joint ventures, or other companies under a common control (collectively "affiliated companies").
This application has similar characteristics to other adware and is identical to SushiLeads, BBQLeads, and PastaQuotes. As with PuddingQuotes, Jogotempo, PicZoomer, Big-Bonus, and GreenPlayer also claim to improve the Internet browsing experience by providing various useful features.
Rather than enabling the functionality promised, however, they merely display intrusive online advertisements and collect personally identifiable information. The purpose of this adware is to generate revenue for the developers, and thus, promises to enhance the Internet browsing experience are simply attempts to give the impression of legitimate and useful software. Users receive no real value.
How did PuddingQuotes install on my computer?
The developers mainly distribute PuddingQuotes using a deceptive software marketing method called 'bundling' - stealth installation of third party applications with regular software. This method is popular and effective, since many users do not pay enough attention when downloading and installing software.
Unaware that rogue applications are often hidden within the 'Custom' or 'Advanced' settings, they skip this section, thereby inadvertently installing PUPs such as PuddingQuotes.
How to avoid installation of potentially unwanted applications?
There are two main steps you should take to prevent installation of PUPs. Choose the 'Custom' or 'Advanced' download/installation options, rather than 'Quick' or 'Typical' - this will reveal any hidden third party applications and allow you to opt-out.
The key to computer safety is caution. By closely analyzing the download/installation processes, and declining all third party programs, you will be able to safely download and install your chosen software.
