What is Up Pro?
Up Pro is a potentially unwanted program (PUP) claiming to save time and money by providing coupons, displaying special deals/discounts on various online stores, enabling comparison shopping, and other similar functionality - "When you view a product online, Up Pro lets you know where you can find it for a lower price".
The features offered by Up Pro are merely attempts to trick users into believing that it is a legitimate application. In fact, Up Pro is an adware-type application that infiltrates computer systems and Internet browsers without users' consent. It also displays intrusive online advertisements and tracks users' Internet browsing activity.
The types of advertisements displayed include (but are not limited to) coupon, price comparison, and pop-up ads. These usually redirect to various e-commerce websites such as online stores or other websites offering certain services. There is a high probability, however, that users will also be redirected to bogus sites containing infectious content.
Therefore, clicking them is risky and may lead to further computer infections. Furthermore, these advertisements are displayed using a virtual layer, which enables placement of third party graphical content on any visited websites.
Advertisements generated by Up Pro do not originate from the visited sites and conceal underlying content, thereby diminishing the Internet browsing experience. In addition, users' Internet browsing activity is continually monitored, since Up Pro gathers various software and hardware information that is later shared with third parties.
Although the collected information (such as IP addresses, websites visited, pages viewed, search queries, and other similar data) might seem insignificant, it can include private details. This type of information sharing can lead to serious privacy issues, and therefore, you should uninstall Up Pro adware immediately.
Up Pro Privacy Policy regarding information sharing:
We do not sell, trade, or otherwise transfer your personally identifiable information to third parties. This does not include trusted third parties who assist us in operating our Website or Service, conducting our business, or providing you with Services, as long as those parties are committed to keeping this information confidential by all means.
Up Pro is one of hundreds of adware-type apps also claiming to save time and money by offering useful features, including Cant Miss Coupons, RecommendationBox, and CandyBox. None provide the features promised. These false claims are simply attempts to give the impression of legitimacy and to trick users to install.
Applications such as Up Pro are designed solely to generate revenue for the developers. Rather than providing any real value for users, they display intrusive online advertisements and collect personally identifiable information.
How did Up Pro install on my computer?
The developers employ a deceptive software marketing method called 'bundling' (stealth installation of third party apps with regular software/apps) to distribute Up Pro adware. Therefore, this application usually infiltrates systems without users' permission.
Many users rush download and installation of software. Aware of this, developers intentionally conceal PUPs within the 'Custom' or 'Advanced' settings. By rushing the download and installation processes, and skipping this section, users expose their systems to risk of infection.
How to avoid installation of potentially unwanted applications?
This situation can be avoided by closely analyzing the download and installation processes and opting-out of all third party applications. Use the 'Custom' or 'Advanced' settings, study all steps, and decline any offers to download or install additional apps.
