Fast Media Converter Ads

What is Fast Media Converter?
Fast Media Converter is a potentially unwanted program (PUP) that supposedly offers a file format converting feature - "Fast media converter is a professional audio file converter for Windows that makes converting files fun, fast and easy! Simply drop your file into the converter and click convert!"
This functionality may seem legitimate and useful, however, be aware that Fast Media Converter is categorized as adware. There are a number of reasons for this negative association. Firstly, Fast Media Converter infiltrates systems without users' consent.
Furthermore, it generates intrusive online advertisements and collects various information relating to users' Internet browsing activity.
Display of advertisements and information tracking is a common feature of adware. Fast Media Converter generates comparison shopping, new tab, and other similar intrusive ads. All are displayed using a virtual layer, which enables placement of third party content on visited sites.
These advertisements may seem harmless, however, they do not originate from the visited websites and conceal underlying content, thereby significantly diminishing the Internet browsing experience - clicking them can lead to high-risk adware or malware infections.
Furthermore, Fast Media Converter continually monitors users' Internet browsing activity, gathering various information, which the developers (Howard Software) share with cooperating third party companies.
Some of the gathered data might contain personally identifiable information, which these third parties can misuse to generate revenue. Thus, the presence of Fast Media Converter on your system can lead to serious privacy issues or even identity theft - you should uninstall this PUP immediately.
Fast Media Converter is identical to most regular adware. For example, Note-up, DesktopClock, Express Media Converter, and Pick Your Wallpapers also offer various features to supposedly improve the Internet browsing experience. These fake promises are given with the intention of tricking users to install.
After infiltration, applications such as Fast Media Converter provide none of the functionality promised. Their purpose is merely to generate revenue for the developers. Rather than providing any significant value for users, these applications deliver advertisements and collect personally identifiable information.
How did Fast Media Converter install on my computer?
The developers often distribute Fast Media Converter as a 'bundle' with regular apps. This so-called 'bundling' method is stealth installation of third party applications with the chosen software/apps.
Many users are unaware that PUPs such as Fast Media Converter are hidden within the 'Custom' or 'Advanced' download/installation settings. By rushing these processes and skipping this section, users often inadvertently install bogus applications and expose their systems to high-risk computer infections.
How to avoid installation of potentially unwanted applications?
Do not rush the installation process. Most PUPs are hidden, and therefore, you should closely analyze the download and installation processes using the 'Custom' or 'Advanced' settings. Only by opting-out all of PUPs will you be able to safely download and install your desired software.
