DNSBlock Unwanted Application
Written by Tomas Meskauskas on (updated)
What is DNSBlock?
The DNSBlock application claims to protect users from various Internet infections and threats. Many users believe that this program is legitimate and useful, however, DNSBlock is categorized as adware and a potentially unwanted program (PUP). The reason for these negative associations is the behavior exhibited by this adware, which includes stealth installation and tracking of Internet browsing activity.
Unlike other adware-type applications, DNSBlock does not generate intrusive advertisements, however, its rogue behavior includes monitoring of users' Internet browsing activity.
DNSBlock gathers various information that might be personally identifiable including Internet Protocol (IP) addresses (to determine geographic locations), website URLs visited, search queries entered into search engines (for example, Google, Bing, Yahoo, etc.), pages viewed, etc.
This collected data is later shared with third party companies who can misuse it to generate revenue. Thus, the presence of DNSBlock adware on your system can lead to serious privacy issues or even identity theft. For these reasons, we strongly recommend that you uninstall DNSBlock adware.
DNSBlock is similar to other adware-type applications claiming to enhance the Internet browsing experience including Note-up, Chedot Browser, and SharPlayer. This adware is designed solely to generate revenue for the developers - it promises to enable useful features simply to trick users to install.
Rather than providing the features promised, however, these apps display intrusive online advertisements (via the 'Pay Per Click' - PPC - advertising model) and gather personally identifiable information (which is later sold to third party companies).
How did DNSBlock install on my computer?
DNSBlock is available for download on its official website, however, it is also distributed as a 'bundle' with other software. Thus, many users install this application without their consent. Bundled applications are often concealed within the 'Custom' or 'Advanced' settings.
By rushing the download and installation procedures, users commonly skip this section and inadvertently install PUPs, thereby threatening their privacy and exposing their systems to risk of infection.
How to avoid installation of potentially unwanted applications?
Adware-type applications are often hidden within the 'Custom' or 'Advanced' settings. Therefore, closely analyze the download and installation processes. Follow each step and decline all offers to download or install additional programs.
The key to computer safety is caution. Rushing the download and installation processes simply increases the chance of high-risk computer infections.
