SharPlayer Ads

What is SharPlayer?
Developed by SoftForce LLC, the SharPlayer application supposedly allows users to create a playlist of videos from various streaming sites such as YouTube, Vimeo, etc. - "SharPlayer lets you grab videos from Youtube, Vimeo and other streaming websites. Just copy the URLs to mix and match all your favorite videos and create amazing playlists in seconds!"
Some users may believe that this app is legitimate and useful, however, SharPlayer is categorized as adware and a potentially unwanted program (PUP). SharPlayer stealthily infiltrates systems, tracks Internet browsing activity, and displays intrusive ads. All this is performed without users' consent.
SharPlayer generates text, link, sound, video, and other similar advertisements. All ads are displayed using a virtual layer, which enables placement of third party graphical content on any visited sites. None of the ads originate from the visited websites, and some conceal underlying content, thereby diminishing the Internet browsing experience.
Others might redirect to bogus sites containing malicious content, and thus, accidental clicks can lead to high-risk computer infections. SharPlayer gathers the following types of information: Internet Protocol (IP) addresses (to determine geolocations), browser and operating system type, installed applications, computer hardware, websites visited, pages viewed, search queries, cookies, etc.
This collected data may contain personally identifiable details that are later shared with third parties and misused to generate revenue. Therefore, the presence of SharPlayer on your system can lead to serious privacy issues or even identity theft. We strongly recommend that you uninstall SharPlayer immediately.
SharPlayer EULA regarding advertising and information tracking:
By accessing the Sites and downloading the Content, you hereby grant us permission to display promotional information, advertisements, and offers for third party products or services (collectively "Advertising"). The Advertising may include, without limitation, content, offers for products or services, data, links, articles, graphic or video messages, text, software, music, sound, graphics or other materials or services. The timing, frequency, placement and extent of the Advertising changes are determined in our sole discretion. You further grant us permission to collect and use certain aggregate information in accord with our Privacy Policy.
This application is simply regular adware and similar to hundreds of other PUPs. As with SharPlayer, Oh My Coupons, NetRadio, KeyStream, and PopDown also falsely claim to enhance the Internet browsing experience simply to trick users to install.
Rather than providing the functionality promised, adware-type applications merely display advertisements and collect personal data. Their purpose is to generate as much revenue for the developers as possible - users receive no real value.
How did SharPlayer install on my computer?
SharPlayer usually infiltrates systems during installation of other apps. This deceptive software marketing method is called 'bundling'. Developers hide rogue applications within the 'Custom' or 'Advanced' settings, which are likely to be skipped by many users.
By rushing the download and installation processes, users commonly skip most steps and go on to inadvertently install PUPs, thereby exposing their systems to risk of further infection.
How to avoid installation of potentially unwanted applications?
All software should be installed with caution. Rogue applications such as SharPlayer are usually concealed, and therefore, you should check the 'Custom' or 'Advanced' settings section - here, offers to install additional programs can be declined.
