Cinemax Plus Adware

What is Cinemax Plus?
Cinemax Plus is an updated version of Cinemax adware. This browser add-on claims to enhance the Internet browsing experience by improving the quality of online videos.
Although this functionality may seem legitimate and useful, be aware that Cinemax Plus is categorized as a potentially unwanted program (PUP) and adware. The three main reasons for these negative associations are: stealth installation, display of intrusive online advertisements, and tracking of Internet browsing activity.
This adware is developed to generate pop-up/under, coupon, transitional, inline text, transitional, and banner ads. These are displayed using a virtual layer, which enables placement of third party graphical content on any visited website.
None of these advertisements originate from the visited sites and conceal underlying content, thereby diminishing the Internet browsing experience. Some may redirect to bogus sites containing infectious content, and therefore, clicking them can lead to high-risk adware or malware infections.
In addition, Cinemax Plus gathers various Internet browsing-related information including IP addresses, visited sites, viewed pages, and search queries. This might seem insignificant, however, some of this information may contain personally identifiable details that are later shared with third parties.
Therefore, having Cinemax Plus installed on your system may risk serious privacy issues. We strongly recommend that you uninstall this adware immediately.
Cinemax Plus has similar characteristics to hundreds of other potentially unwanted adware-type apps, most of which are virtually identical.
All adware-apps (including Sonic Search, ArcadeCandy, and DNS-Keeper) claim to be legitimate (providing so-called 'useful features'), however, after tricking users to installation, they merely display advertisements and gather user/system information. Their purpose is to generate revenue for the developers - they provide none of the features promised.
How did Cinemax Plus install on my computer?
Cinemax Plus is usually distributed as a 'bundle' with free software. The developers are aware that many users skip most/all of the download and installation steps, and thus, intentionally conceal installation of rogue apps within the 'Custom' or 'Advanced' settings.
By rushing these processes, users often install potentially unwanted programs inadvertently and expose their system to risk of further computer infections.
How to avoid installation of potentially unwanted applications?
Never rush download and installation of any software. Closely observe each step and decline all offers to download or install additional apps. Select the 'Custom' or 'Advanced' options, rather than 'Quick' or 'Typical' - this will reveal any bundled software listed for installation and allow you to opt-out.
