What is SimilarDeals?
SimilarDeals is an advertising network used by various adware-type applications such as BitSaver, CutThePrice, TheAdBlock, Extreme Blocker, and many others. Applications using the SimilarDeals advertising network claim to enhance the Internet browsing experience in various ways.
These claims are false, since all are categorized as adware and potentially unwanted programs (PUP). These apps often infiltrate systems without users' permission. They then display intrusive online advertisements, track Internet browsing activity, and gather various user/system information.
The types of ads generated by this advertising network appear as coupons in as separate box that pop-ups while browsing the Internet. Since these ads do not originate from the visited website, they conceal underlying content.
This diminishes the Internet browsing experience. In addition, some ads redirect to untrusted sites that may contain infectious content, and thus, clicking them can lead to further computer infections. The above is achieved using a virtual layer, which enables placement of any third party graphical content on visited sites.
Furthermore, apps that use the SimilarDeals network collect various Internet browsing-related information, and therefore, having them installed may cause various privacy issues. You are strongly advised to uninstall all adware-type applications immediately.
Adware-type applications claim to improve the Internet browsing experience by offering a wide range of useful features. These claims are merely attempts to trick users into believing that the apps are legitimate, however, they provide no real value for the user - they simply display ads and collect data to generate revenue for the developers.
How did SimilarDeals install on my computer?
Applications that use this advertising network are distributed using a deceptive software marketing method called 'bundling' - stealth installation of third party applications with the chosen software/apps.
Many users do not express enough caution when downloading and installing software, and thus, these applications infiltrate the system when hidden within the 'Custom' or 'Advanced' settings. The developers are aware that many users skip this section, and therefore, intentionally conceal rogue applications in this manner.
How to avoid installation of potentially unwanted applications?
Applications should be downloaded and installed with caution. Follow each step and decline all offers to download/install third party software. These processes should be performed using the 'Custom' or 'Advanced' options - this will reveal any concealed potentially unwanted programs and enable you to opt-out.
