SysPlayer Ads

What is SysPlayer?
SysPlayer (developed by the same company as ConverterPro) is supposedly a player that supports various audio and video formats - "SysPlayer is an extremely lightweight FREE Media Player with built-in codecs, which supports most popular video and audio formats, as well as DVD, audio CD, Webcams and other devices."
This application may seem legitimate and useful, however, it is categorized adware and a potentially unwanted program (PUP). SysPlayer infiltrates the system without users' permission, collects system information, and may display intrusive online advertisements.
SysPlayer collects IP addresses, websites visited, pages viewed, search queries, and other similar Internet browsing-related information. Some users may be unaware that this information can contain personally identifiable details and is later shared with third parties.
Therefore, having SysPlayer installed on your system can lead to serious privacy issues or even identity theft. Furthermore, this application continually displays third party ads, thereby diminishing the Internet browsing experience. The displayed ads conceal underlying content and users must avoid clicking them.
Additionally, displayed third party content may lead to untrusted websites, thereby exposing your system to risk of infection. You are advised to uninstall SysPlayer adware immediately.
SysPlayer is similar to Savings Ship, First Verify, First Verify, and hundreds of other adware-type apps. Be aware that PUPs such as SysPlayer claim to be legitimate and improve the Internet browsing experience. These claims are false. None provide the features promised. The purpose of adware-type apps is to generate revenue by displaying ads and collecting information.
How did SysPlayer install on my computer?
SysPlayer is distributed as a 'bundle' with the regular (usually free) software. Research shows that most users do not express enough caution when downloading and installing software, and thus, hiding additional programs in the 'Custom' or 'Advanced' settings section is extremely effective.
Many users are unaware that bogus applications are concealed, rush installation and skip most/all of the steps, thereby inadvertently installing bogus apps.
How to avoid installation of potentially unwanted applications?
The key to computer safety is caution. Pay close attention when downloading and installing software. Closely analyze each step when downloading free software and opt-out of all additional programs listed for installation.
In addition, applications should be installed using the 'Custom' or 'Advanced' options - this will reveal any third party software listed for installation and allow you to decline it.
