QuickVideoPlayer Ads

What is QuickVideoPlayer?
The QuickVideoPlayer app claims to enable users to create a playlist from online videos and those stored on a computer - "With Quickvideoplayer you will be able to create the ultimate playlist: your very own. By using offline content from your media collection and online content from Youtube and other websites, the possibilities are limitless."
On initial inspection, this app may seem legitimate and useful, however, QuickVideoPlayer is categorized as adware and a potentially unwanted program (PUP). Once QuickVideoPlayer successfully infiltrates the system, it displays intrusive online advertisements and gathers various software and hardware-related information.
QuickVideoPlayer displays intrusive online advertisements (banners, pop-ups, etc.) marked as 'WebBrowser'. These may seem harmless, however, some can lead to rogue websites containing infectious content. Therefore, clicking them can result in high-risk computer infections.
Furthermore, these ads conceal underlying website content, thereby diminishing the Internet browsing experience. Note that some ads open in new browser tabs or windows, consequently increasing the chance of accidental user clicks. In addition, QuickVideoPlayer tracks users' Internet browsing activity and collects various information that is later shared with third parties.
The shared information might contain personally identifiable details and can be misused to generate revenue. This situation can lead to serious privacy issues or even identity theft. You are strongly advised to uninstall QuickVideoPlayer.
This PUP is identical to ViPlayer, FusionPlayer, and other apps. QuickVideoPlayer is also very similar to hundreds of other PUPs categorized as adware. Adware-type apps are developed to trick users to install by offering various features to supposedly improve the Internet browsing experience.
Rather than providing the features promised, these apps display intrusive online advertisements and collect personally identifiable information to generate revenue for the developers.
How did QuickVideoPlayer install on my computer?
QuickVideoPlayer is often distributed using a deceptive software marketing method called 'bundling' - stealth installation of third party apps with regular software. Many users do not express enough caution when downloading and installing programs, and therefore, bundling method is very effective.
Bogus apps such as QuickVideoPlayer are commonly hidden in the 'Custom' or 'Advanced' settings, thus, by skipping this section, many users inadvertently install PUPs. The developers are only concerned with the amount of revenue generated and do not properly disclose installation of bogus apps.
How to avoid installation of potentially unwanted applications?
Installation of PUPs can be avoided by taking two simple steps. Firstly, pay close attention when downloading software - follow each step and opt-out of any third party software included. Secondly, installation of all applications should be performed with the 'Custom' or 'Advanced' options - this will reveal any hidden PUPs and enable you to cancel them.
