What is ViPlayer?
ViPlayer claims to be a legitimate video player that supports many video formats (mp4, avi, flv, etc.) and allows users to watch online streams, choose video quality, and enable other similar features - "One player with all your videos. Create your playlists using any source of video."
This functionality may seem legitimate, however, ViPlayer is categorized as adware and a potentially unwanted program (PUP). After stealth infiltration on the system, this app displays intrusive online advertisements and collects personally identifiable information.
ViPlayer adware displays a variety of WebBrowser advertisements (for example, banner, pop-up, etc.) Some open in new browser tabs/windows, thereby increasing the chance of accidental clicks by users. There is a chance that clicked ads will redirect to dubious websites and subsequently cause high-risk computer infections.
Furthermore, users' Internet browsing activity is continually monitored, since ViPlayer collects various Internet browsing-related information.
The collected data is later shared with third parties and may contain personally identifiable information. Therefore, the presence of ViPlayer on your system can lead to privacy issues. ViPlayer is a potential threat to your privacy and Internet browsing safety and should be eliminated immediately.
Although ViPlayer is identical to FusionPlayer, it is also very similar to hundreds of other PUPs that claim to be legitimate (for example, The Results Hub, CloudScout, and Cool Browser). None provide the features promised - the purpose of adware-type apps is to generate revenue for the developers.
Rather than delivering any real value for the user, adware-type apps display intrusive online adverts and collect personally identifiable information.
How did ViPlayer install on my computer?
As with most regular adware, ViPlayer is often distributed with software downloadable from freeware download websites including softonic.com, soft32.com, and downloads.com.
Most users do not pay enough attention when downloading and installing software, and therefore, skip some/all steps including the 'Custom' or 'Advanced' settings within which bogus apps are most likely to be hidden. By skipping this section, users expose the system to risk of infection.
How to avoid installation of potentially unwanted applications?
There are two main steps you should take to avoid installation of bogus apps. Firstly, closely observe each step of the free software download procedure and cancel all additionally-included programs. Secondly, installation of all applications should be performed using the 'Custom' or 'Advanced' settings - this will reveal any third party software listed for installation and allow you to opt-out.
