eoRezo Adware
Written by Tomas Meskauskas on (updated)
What is eoRezo?
The eoRezo company provides four different applications: eoClock, eoMeteo (a weather forecasting app), eoNet (a network traffic monitoring app), and eoSudoku (a Sudoku game). Some users may believe these applications are legitimate and useful, however, apps developed by eoRezo are categorized as adware and potentially unwanted programs (PUPs).
One of the main reasons for these negative associations is stealth installation - rogue applications often infiltrate systems without users' permission. Furthermore, they display intrusive online advertisements and track Internet browsing-related information.
Adware-type applications display various advertisements that do not originate from the visited website. Some pop-up as new browser tabs/windows, thereby increasing the chance of accidental user clicks. Most redirect to commercial websites (for example, online stores) and may seem harmless, however, others can redirect to bogus websites containing infectious content.
Thus, clicking them can lead to further computer infections. In addition, these apps track information that can be personally identifiable, and so having any eoRezo software installed on your system might cause privacy issues.
The eoClock, eoMeteo, eoNet, and eoSudoku apps are potential threats to your Internet browsing safety and privacy, and therefore, should be uninstalled immediately.
There are hundreds similar apps developed by eoRezo. For example, RadPlayer, FlashBeat, MediaPlayer, and BestArcadeHits also claim to provide various useful features. These claims are false, since the apps merely deliver ads and collect personally identifiable information to generate revenue for the developers. They deliver none of the features promised and are useless to the user.
How did eoRezo install on my computer?
eoRezo has an official website whereby the developed apps are available for download. The apps are also distributed using a deceptive software marketing method called 'bundling' - stealth installation of third party apps together with regular software.
The problem is that many users carelessly rush the download/installation processes and skip steps - unaware that bogus apps are usually concealed within the 'Custom' or 'Advanced' section. By skipping this step, they unwillingly install rogue apps such as the ones developed by eoRezo.
How to avoid installation of potentially unwanted applications?
If you are using a freeware download website, select the direct download link, rather than using a promoted download app. Most of these sites, however, enforce the use of their download apps - in this case, follow each step of the free software download procedure and ensure that only the chosen software is downloaded.
If possible, you should download your chosen software from a trusted source - usually the official website. In addition, downloaded apps should be installed using the 'Custom' or 'Advanced' settings - this will reveal any bundled programs listed for installation and allow you to opt-out.
