What is Top Deal Master?
Top Deal Master is a dubious application claiming to save time and money while shopping online - "Topdealmaster helps you get live price comparison with the products you are viewing online. We cover hundreds of millions of products from dozens of online merchants. simply go to your favorite online store, search for your desired product and Topdealmaster will locate a better deal for you." This functionality may seem legitimate and useful, however, be aware that this browser plug-in is categorized as adware and a potentially unwanted program (PUP), since it installs on the system (and infiltrates the Internet Explorer, Google Chrome, and Mozilla Firefox browsers) without users' permission. Top Deal Master then displays intrusive online advertisements and monitors Internet browsing activity.
Top Deal Master displays coupons, banners, pop-ups, price comparison, and other types of advertisement. Ads are displayed using a virtual layer, which allows placement of any graphical content on websites visited (the additional content does not originate from the site visited). Some ads are opened in new browser tabs or windows, thereby increasing the chance of accidental user clicks. The displayed ads diminish the Internet browsing experience by concealing underlying content. These ads may seem harmless, however, some redirect to bogus websites containing infectious content, and therefore, clicking them may result in high-risk computer infections. In addition, this bogus app collects various Internet browsing-related information including Internet Protocol (IP) addresses, websites visited, pages viewed, search queries, etc., some of which may be personally identifiable. Top Deal Master developers later share this information with third parties, and thus, having this app installed on your system can lead to serious privacy issues or identity theft. You are strongly advised to uninstall Top Deal Master from your system immediately.
Top Deal Master Privacy Policy regarding information sharing:
The Company may use third party service or software providers, in order to help it operate its business and/or Software, or to administer activities on its behalf. For this purpose the Company may share information it accepts or collects from Users. For example, the Company may share User’s information in order to provide Users with certain content which the Company or other third parties may think will be of interest to the User (such content may be provided either by the Company or by other third parties at its choice).
Top Deal Master is very similar to hundreds of other adware-type apps offering identical features. For example, Best Price Ninja, Kellystoys, Deal Barium, and Linkey Deals also (falsely) claim to provide useful features just to give the impression of legitimate software. In fact, their purpose is to generate revenue for the developers by displaying intrusive online advertisements and gathering personally identifiable information. Apps such Top Deal Master provide no real value for the user.
How did Top Deal Master install on my computer?
Top Deal Master uses a deceptive software marketing method called 'bundling' (stealth installation of third party apps along with the chosen software) to infiltrate systems. This method is effective, since many users do not pay enough attention when downloading and installing software. Most rush the process, and skip important steps, including the 'Custom' or 'Advanced' section where bogus applications are likely to be hidden. In this way, they expose the system to risk of infection.
How to avoid installation of potentially unwanted applications?
Installation of apps such as Top Deal Master can be avoided by closely analyzing each step of the free software download procedure - pay close attention and decline all offers to install third party software. Furthermore, select the 'Custom' or 'Advanced' installation options, rather than 'Quick' or 'Typical' - this will reveal any bundled apps listed for installation and allow you to opt-out.
