Kellystoys removal instructions
What is Kellystoys?
Kellystoys is a deceptive browser extension claiming to save time and money while shopping online - "Kelley’s Toys helps you get live price comparison with the products you are viewing online. We cover hundreds of millions of products from dozens of online merchants. simply go to your favorite online store, search for your desired product and Kelley’s Toys will locate a better deal for you." This may seem useful functionality, however, these claims are merely attempts to give the impression of legitimate software and to trick users to install. Kellystoys is considered to be adware and a potentially unwanted program (PUP). One of the main reasons for these negative associations is the practice of stealth installation of this software without users' consent. Furthermore, this application generates intrusive online advertisements and monitors Internet browsing activity.
Types of displayed advertisements include (but are not limited to) banners, pop-ups, and price comparison ads. These ads are displayed using a virtual layer that allows placement of graphical content on any website visited - the content does not originate from the site visited. Some advertisements are opened in new browser tabs or windows and most are likely to redirect to commercial websites such as online stores. Some, however, redirect to infectious websites, and therefore, clicking them may result in serious privacy issues or even identity theft. Kellystoys also collects various software and hardware information that is (according to the Privacy Policy of this adware) not personally identifiable. Despite this claim, IP addresses, websites visited, pages viewed, search queries, and other collected data will certainly contain private details (for example, PayPal account login/password). The collected information is shared with third parties who can misuse it to generate revenue. Therefore, having an information tracking app such as this installed on your system can lead to serious privacy issues or even identity theft. You are strongly advised to uninstall Kellystoys from your system.
Kellystoys is regular adware and similar to hundreds of other PUPs offering similar features. Kellystoys, and many other apps such as GamingCandy, Surf Speed Monitor, and LightningDownloader provide none of the features promised. The purpose of adware-type apps is to generate revenue for the developers by displaying advertisements and collecting personally identifiable information.
How did Kellystoys install on my computer?
As with other regular adware, Kellystoys is distributed using a deceptive software marketing method called 'bundling'. Bundling is a way to stealthily install third party apps together with regular software, and since most users do not pay enough attention when downloading/installing software, this method is extremely effective. By rushing installation and skipping most steps, users often inadvertently install bogus apps such as Kellystoys - they do not realize that bogus apps are concealed within 'Custom' or 'Advanced' options.
How to avoid installation of potentially unwanted applications?
If you are downloading software from a freeware download website, select the direct download (some sites still provide this option). If you are forced to use a download app, closely analyze each step of the procedure and decline all offers to install third parties. In fact, downloading from the official website of the software is the easiest and safest method. Once download is complete, select the 'Custom' or 'Advanced' installations options - this will reveal any bundled apps listed for installation and allow you to opt-out.
