BoostWeb App Adware
Written by Tomas Meskauskas on (updated)
What is BoostWeb App?
BoostWeb App is an adware-type application claiming to enable various useful tools, thereby improving the Internet browsing experience. Some users may find this app legitimate and useful, however, BoostWeb App employs a deceptive software marketing method called 'bundling' to infiltrate computers without users' consent.
Therefore, BoostWeb App is categorized as a potentially unwanted program (PUP). Bundling is a way to stealthily install third party (mostly rogue) applications/browser extensions during installation of regular software.
For this reason, most users inadvertently install this bogus app during download of free software from freeware download websites. As with regular adware, BoostWeb App generates intrusive online advertisements and collects various Internet browsing-related information following infiltration.
Be aware that advertisements generated by this application (banner, pop-up, interstitial, in-text, etc.) are likely to redirect to rogue websites that often contain infectious content.
Thus, clicking these ads may lead to further high-risk adware or malware infections. Information collected by BoostWeb App (IP addresses, websites visited, pages viewed, search queries entered, operating system/browser types, etc.) might contain personally identifiable details, and therefore, having this PUP installed on your system may cause serious privacy issues. You are strongly advised to uninstall BoostWeb App from your system immediately.
BoostWeb App is similar to hundreds of other rogue apps offering similar functions including TermBlazer, WordFly, and Intense Result.
These apps claim to enhance the Internet browsing experience, however, neither BoostWeb App, nor any of these other apps provide any real value - they are developed to generate revenue by sharing collected data with third parties and displaying intrusive online advertisements.
At time of research, BoostWeb App was mostly distributed vial small programs called 'download managers' on freeware download websites such as download.com, soft32.com, softonic.com, and many others.
Download managers supposedly ease the download process, however, they are employed simply to monetize these websites' traffic and free services by offering installation of additional applications together with the chosen software. According to the developers, these promoted apps are 'legitimate and virus-free', however, most are considered to be adware or malware.
To avoid computer infections, closely analyse each step of the free software download procedure and ensure that no additional programs are included.
Furthermore, downloaded apps should be installed using the 'Advanced' or 'Custom' installation options - this will reveal any bundled software listed for installation and allow you to opt-out. If you have installed BoostWeb App, the following guide will help you to eliminate this PUP from your system.
