What is HQCinema Pro?
HQCinema Pro is a dubious browser add-on that supposedly improves online video quality. This functionality may seem legitimate and useful, however, this browser extension is categorized as adware or potentially unwanted program (PUP).
One of the reasons for these negative associations is a deceptive software marketing method called 'bundling' (stealth installation of additional programs together with the chosen software) employed to distribute HQCinema Pro.
Following infiltration on Internet browsers (Internet Explorer, Google Chrome, and Mozilla Firefox) without users' consent, HQCinema Pro generates various intrusive online advertisements including coupon, comparison shopping, pop-up, pop-under, banner, and other ads.
Advertisements displayed by this adware often redirect to bogus websites, thereby exposing your computer to risk of infection.
As with other regular adware, HQCinema Pro tracks and collects various Internet browsing-related information including Internet Protocol (IP) addresses (to determine users' geographic locations), website URLs visited, search queries, pages viewed, and other recorded information that is likely to be personally identifiable.
For this reason, having HQCinema Pro installed on your system might lead to serious privacy issues or identity theft. Note that many adware applications have similar or identical behavior. For example, HQCinema Pro is similar to MediaPlayer, Primary Color, 1Player, and UnknownFile.
These apps claim to enable various useful features, however, they provide no real value to the user - they are developed simply to generate revenue by sharing collected information with third parties and displaying intrusive online ads.
Research shows that adware-type applications and browser add-ons are often distributed via small programs called 'download clients' (also called 'installers', 'download managers', etc.) on freeware download websites such as download.com, soft32.com, softonic.com, and so on.
Download clients offer installation of additional applications together with the chosen software to monetize these websites' traffic and free services. These promoted apps are often described as legitimate, however, most are adware or malware infections.
Installation of PUPs such as HQCinema Pro can be avoided by closely inspecting each step of the free software download procedure and never accepting offers to install third party applications.
Furthermore, programs downloaded from the Internet should be installed using the 'Advanced' or 'Custom' installation options, rather than 'Quick' or 'Typical' - this will reveal any bundled apps listed for installation and allow you to decline them.
If you have installed HQCinema Pro, and you observe intrusive online advertisements while surfing the Internet, read the instructions provided and eliminate this adware from your system immediately.
