What is FlippyRoo?
FlippyRoo is a rogue browser extension created by SuperWeb LLC. The developers state that this product will improve the Internet browsing experience by enabling features such as coupons and comparison shopping. Although this functionality may seem legitimate and useful, FlippyRoo is classed as adware or a potentially unwanted program (PUP).
SuperWeb LLC distributes this application using a deceptive software marketing method called 'bundling' - stealth installation of third-party applications together with regular software. Be aware that FlippyRoo infiltrates the Internet Explorer, Google Chrome, and Mozilla Firefox browsers.
Following successful installation, FlippyRoo generates various intrusive advertisements including coupons, banners, pop-ups, interstitial, transitional, and full-page ads. When clicked, these advertisements often redirect to bogus websites containing infectious content, thereby exposing your computer to infection.
Furthermore, as with typical adware, FlippyRoo monitors and collects various Internet browsing-related information such as Internet Protocol addresses, websites visited, pages viewed, unique identifier numbers, and search queries.
This recorded data may include personally identifiable details, and therefore, the presence of FlippyRoo on your system can lead to serious privacy issues or identity theft. You are strongly advised to eliminate this adware from your system.
SuperWeb LLC has released several hundred PUPs identical to FlippyRoo. This company releases identical browser plug-ins (for example, Shopymate, Blue Bulletin, Sharp Angle, and Assist Point) under different names to avoid detection by legitimate anti-spyware and anti-virus suites.
None of these plug-ins (including FlippyRoo) provide any real value to the user - they are developed to generate revenue by the display of ads and sharing collected data with third parties. Most adware is distributed via small programs called 'download managers' on freeware download websites.
Download managers are employed to monetize download websites' free services and traffic by offering installation of third-party applications, or simply by hiding installation under the 'Custom' or 'Advanced' options. Commonly, these promoted apps are described as '100% legitimate and virus-free', however, they are mostly adware or malware.
To prevent such infections, closely inspect each step of the free software download procedure to ensure that no additional applications are included.
Furthermore, downloaded free software should be installed using the 'Custom' or 'Advanced' options - this will reveal any concealed applications listed for installation and allow you to decline them. If you have installed FlippyRoo, the following removal guide will help you to eliminate this adware from your system.
