DoReMe Adware
Written by Tomas Meskauskas on (updated)
What is DoReMe?
DoReMe is a rogue application distributed using the 'bundling' method (stealth installation of additional applications together with other software) and is categorized as adware. Users commonly install this app together with free software downloaded from freeware download websites.
After Internet Explorer, Google Chrome, and Mozilla Firefox are successfully infiltrated, the user will experience intrusive online advertisements including pop-up/under, price comparison, coupon, banner, inline text, transitional, etc. Clicking these advertisements can result in further computer infections.
In addition, DoReMe tracks users' Internet browsing activity and collects various information such as browser types and data (language, default search engine, cookies, websites visited, pages viewed, search queries, etc.), operating system, IP addresses, geographic location, and so on.
This collected information may be personally identifiable and the behavior of this application can lead to privacy issues. DoReMe is similar to other adware distributed using bundling method. Some examples include LolyKey, Fragile Fixer, and Hard Case. As with DoReMe, however, they provide no real value for the user.
Adware-type applications are developed to generate revenue by the display of ads, redirecting users to various websites and sharing collected data with third parties. You are strongly advised to uninstall DoReMe from your system.
Recently, most adware applications were distributed via small programs called 'download managers' on freeware download websites such as download.com, soft32.com, and softonic.com. Download managers are used to monetize these websites' services by including additional programs when users download free software.
Although these advertised applications are described as virus-free, rushing the freeware download and installation process risks computer infection with adware or malware. Installation of adware can be avoided by examining each step of the free software download process to ensure that no other applications are included.
Additionally, downloaded software should be installed using the 'Custom' or 'Advanced' options - this will reveal any bundled applications listed for installation and allow you to opt-out. If you have installed DoReMe, follow the instructions below to eliminate this adware from your system.
