What is Dollar Dream?
Dollar Dream is a rogue browser extension developed by SuperWeb LLC. This company releases extensions and claims that they will improve the Internet browsing experience by enabling coupons, comparison shopping, and other similar features. These may seem legitimate and useful features, however, this browser plug-in is considered to be adware.
It is distributed using a deceptive software marketing method called 'bundling' - stealth installation of additional programs together with the chosen software.
Following installation on Internet browsers (Internet Explorer, Google Chrome, and Mozilla Firefox), Dollar Dream displays intrusive online advertisements that mostly lead to bogus websites and may cause high-risk adware or malware infections.
Dollar Dream also collects various software and hardware information that can be personally identifiable. For example: search queries entered into search engines, URLs visited, pages viewed, unique identifier numbers, Internet Protocol (IP) addresses (to determine users' demographic locations), etc.
This information tracking may result in serious privacy issues or identity theft. Dollar Dream is identical to other applications released by SuperWeb LLC including, for instance, Hard Case, Fragile Fixer, and Metal Maker.
These applications claim to enable an identical set of features, however, none of are useful to the user - their purpose is to generate revenue by the display of intrusive online ads and sharing collected data with third parties.
Research shows that most adware is distributed via small programs called 'installers' (also called 'download managers', 'download clients', etc.) employed by freeware download websites such as download.com, soft32.com, and softonic.com.
Installers are used to monetize these websites' free services by offering installation of advertised (according to the developers, '100% legitimate and virus-free') extensions or applications together with the chosen free software. In fact, these promoted applications are often classed as adware or malware.
In order to avoid these infections, closely monitor the download procedure of any free software - all additionally-included applications should be unchecked.
Furthermore, downloaded applications often hide bundled applications, and therefore, installation should be performed using the 'Advanced' or 'Custom' options - this will reveal any hidden software and allow you to opt-out. If you have installed Dollar Dream, follow this guide to eliminate adware from your system.
